I try to always deal in cash now as it makes me 'tight' whereas a debitcard is just plastic money to me.
I'm the total opposite!:o
If I pay by card, I always keep track of how much I've spent and know exactly how much I've spent to date / can spend ..... cash  could easily go through £20 in a couple of hours and have no idea where it'd gone...... we all need to find what works for us

I've serioulsy got my debt clearing head on and today I decided I did not need my love film subscription, called them up and even when the guy tried downgrading it, I stood firm and said, No, I just want to cancel it. He offered me a payment break for 3 months and I stood firm again, No!! just cancel it! So £6.99 a month saved there.:T
Also called Virgin and cancelled picturebox - saved £5 per month there - can only cancel whole pkg in 2 months, then i will move to primus or plusnet, this will save me approx £30 pm.:j
I tried to downgrade at orange but I've done that once, however they gave me unliited minutes and an extra 750mb of data at no extra cost for being with them for over 5 yrs - kind of a result!!
My next thing is to call vanquis and cancel any extras that i get charged on my card, i know there is one thing about £3 pm but not sure what it is!!
I'm feeling positive about ridding myself of debt right now!
Have you tried the snowballer. Put those figures in and see how much you've knocked off. Brilliant:THi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
Everyone is doing great!
Sankeylindsey - I have love film to and I think I'll ring them and see if I can get a reduction, would get rid of it but hubby is a film buff and we don't have the movie package on tv and he rarely goes out so its his only vice really!!
The snowballer has really motivated me, I've had over £20000 debt for a few years now and after looking at our finances we can be debt free by the end of next year :-)0 -
Hi Everyone,
this is a really inspiring thread. I feel the same, I don't need any more clothes or anymore toiletries, I am going to use what I have. I love sewing and have so much material and threads and books on the subject, I have decided to buy no more until I have used up the materials I have. Also, I have been getting my cookbooks out and trying out some new recipes to use up the food I have. I have been on holiday and it is only then do I realise how much money I waste by over buying! I have multiple items that I should use up before I buy anything else. I am determined this year to try and appreciate what I have already instead of wanting more things and thinking that items will make me happy. They won't, all the things I accumulate add to the clutter. I am determined to pair down all my belongings and keep only the things I like.

Ok I've come to confess....
went shopping at lunchtime, with list in JS, got all 4 items I 'needed' - only exception was prob my decision for a meal plan to use up a bag of spinach and make spinach quiche so I bought a pastry case (I know, could've made it but didn't have anything to cook it in and didn't really have time by the time I got in from work). Also bought a bag of salad - OH not keen on salads so getting him to have some from the mixed bags is progress, if I buy all the ingredients seperatly I can't usually manage to eat them in this weather before they go off. But did get the cheapest per 100g
Didn't 'need' the toilet rolls I got in Tacto after - but £2.50 for 18 and can't complain.
Big confession now - I have just ordered a sewing box online (xmas present from my DM)...now I deff didn't need the button box I also ordered but it was on sale, or prob the pin cushion, although the last bit of foam I used was so old it literally disintegrated. However (and this is me trying to justify it) - this sewing box is planned to last me for a long time, as will the button box and pin cushion to go with it. I do have things to put in it, and do sew.....:o

Toilet rolls will be used and needed at a later date. Don't think anyone ever said 'I really want some toilet rolls!'
Pah to the sewing stuff, it was a present from your Mum, will probably last a lifetime, and will save you money in the long run. Enjoy it.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
Not had too bad a day.
I suppose going to slimming world was probably more of a want but I also need it to get the weight off. However thinking about how much i spend a week its making me want to get the weight off as its free when I get to target.
Dog training is a need as my adopted dog has problems and even though he is the most loving dog out he can be a nightmare out. Plus I get to socialise after the class with everyone and the money I pay for the training goes back into the sanctuary to save other dogs.
I popped into MR S on the way home to get 2 tins of tomatoes to go with my dinner tomorrow and had a look in the reduced bit, two packets of king prawn raviolli from £2.99 to 20p, bag of spinach pasta £1 to 10p, and a Vegetable Dhal fresh pot thing reduced from £3.49 to 15p. Froze all the pasta for another day, and had the Dhal instead of the pizza I had in freezer so today's dinner was only 15p. So I suppose they were a good buy and it was a nice treat. £14 worth of shopping for £1.47 which I cant complain.
Came home and instead of putting heating on, put my hoody on and extra socks. Decided for the hour or so between getting home and going to bed not worth putting heating on.
Determined tomorrow will be a NSD as nothing I need.APR NSD - 0/10

I'm on my very last bit of toothpaste, so I need that. Kitchen roll would be handy but not critical as I've managed without in between shops. Other than that, if I'm honest, I don't actually 'need' anything.Virgin CC £1,738.84 Barclays O/D £32,012.24
Total debt £33,751.08 as at 2.1.13
Short term goal - pay off Virgin CC by end of Jan 2013:eek:0 -
