January's Big Financial Freeze!!!

  • Morning all
I clocked up another nsd yesterday. The OH bought the milk that we were getting a bit desperate for, along with a few other bits that I hadn't asked him to. Our fridge and freezer is full to bursting with decent, healthy food for a change so there should be no need to spend anything at all short term, and definitely no excuse for eating out or a takeaway.
NSK, how could anyone on here even bat an eyelid at your spending money on skin treatment. From what you're saying it sounds like a need rather than a want, it was budgeted for and if you don't have a hang on your money then heaven help the rest of us. You will have made sure you could afford it.
It's not payday for me until Thursday, and I'm chuffed to bits to still have some money in the bank. It's not much, but it's there and it's been about 6 months since that has happened so good news.
Just trying to talk myself out of a spend day today. I have about £150 of vouchers left over from the wedding, and a little voice in the back of my head telling me I should spend them sooner rather than later after the issues with HMV, Comet etc etc. Someone please tell me that this isn't a good idea...

Hi all how are you doing? Sorry I haven't been to check in for a while, I do keep reading posts.

I slipped on snow on 14th jan and twisted my knee. Really painful at the time but hubby was having the car and took me to work as normal. During the day it swelled and the following morning was very swollen and painful and I was struggling to weight bear so it was off to a&e!

They assessed me and told me to wear a splint and go back the following wed. They gave me some crutches too. knee felt much better with the splint on. I had another appointment to afternoon for a biopsy of the roof of my mouth ( I keep getting mouth ulcers and they don't know why). Not pleasant although it didn't hurt as they froze it. Yuk though! Got to go back in a month for results.

Went back to hospital on Wed, had X-ray. Dr said I appear to have had a good go of dislocating my knee cap. No wonder it hurts! I have to wear the splint for 3 more weeks and back so a month of work for me! My knee does feel much better now the swelling has gone down a lot but is till painful. I had an MRI scan on Friday evening (a lucky cancelation) and it was fine (the experience), I get the results when I go back.

On a brighter note, I have had quite a few NSDs as I have not been out! We did manage a couple of hours at a friends 50th with a taxi to and from the door but hubby paid :T

I have done one sainsburys online shop with a £12 voucher taking the toto down to about £75. Hubby has done some top up shops.

I have upgraded my mobile :o while off! This was a planned spend and I was very happy with the deal I got. I did have to pay £100 up front though. My only other spends are cake money 30p for son on Friday and 75p for crisps for him from a machine at my MRI appointment. And one ebay purchase go £2.95 for a used wii game. Pretty good all in all and for saying I am at home with my debit/credit cards and am going a bit stir crazy!

It takes my NSDs total to 14 so far and my grocery shopping to £230 which is over but not by much. Although as hubby has bought some shopping I may have under budgeted. I listed 28 items on eBay yesterday and have some more to do today. I am aiming for 50!

    Take care x

and wait for it..£101 at my local beautician on skin care. Yup that's what I've done.. It is in Februaries budget but bought this month as I am sick to death of looking like a minger.. Simple as that. I'm nearly 30, with scarring that needs to be a little reduced before my epic holiday.. So there. Somebody spank me!!

    Onwards and Upwards!!

Ooh I dont begrudge you - but I know how you feel. I am limping along until February 23rd (pay day) with no foundation and feel ghostly. My mascara needs replacing soon and I ahve a penchant for Clarins Beauty Flash Balm (which has also run out) so the cosmetics bill will be high. Still I have done three weeks back at school without so will be able to limp along another three weeks until half term without.

After my naughty spending yesterday its a day home for me. The sun is shining and the snow has gone so I am about to take the dogs out for a nice long walk (they've been cooped up for soooo long). On return I am planning to make sweet potato and chilli soup (never tried it before so thought I'd give it a try) and then install myself in front of a sewing machine in front of the tv (iygwim). I dont often watch football but my team are on live tv for a change.

Only 4 more "get ups" to go - we're nearly there. In comparison February will fly by.;)

  • Oh good grief the sun is out. Someone catch it!!! Poor PH what am epic month you have had!!! Biggest hugs to you!! If I were there I would draw something rude on your bandage to make you grin... Like boobs.. Lol!! Everhopeful January has been a bit of a struggle for me too.. Just constantly tired and not paying attention WTO what I'm buying.. Inadequate planning I say in NSK world ( did I just swear).. Let's try again in February..:-)

    Hi everyone!

Just checking in - had a really nice evening with some new friends... Yesterday was a spend day as bought some wine to take around and decided to stock up on fruit and veg for next week...

Unfortunately that - although out of Feb's wages - has sent my January food budget over the £80 I'd pledged - !!!!!!!!! It will mean I don't have to buy food until next weekend at the earliest though.

I think everyone is looking forward to putting January behind us... as a month - it seems to get a rough deal lol... I wonder - can we do something *this* year - so that we can all really have a stress free January *next* year??? Maybe over the course of 2013 try and get a month ahead of ourselves or something?

NSK - don't feel bad about that spend - like others have said... it was budgeted for and it's going to ultimately help you to feel better in yourself... and that impacts on life in so many ways...

    Today = NSD number 18

    Enjoy Sunday peeps!!!

  • Well I resisted the lure of the shopping centre and still have my vouchers clogging up my handbag...
Today I have done about 3/4 of the schoolwork that I brought home, made a roast dinner, made a batch of banana and shredded wheat slimmer friendly muffins with the kids and also spent some quality time with the kids playing guess who, uno, wii etc.
So a pretty fun day, which also ended up being a nsd. I've been having cravings for nasty food though so I really hope that I can stay on the SW bandwagon - I'm half a pound away from my half stone award.
Hope everyone else is ok. January is undoubtedly a tough month, the huge comedown after Christmas, grotty weather, long month after early payday in December etc.
