Afternoon everybody - we are waiting for the snow so have come home and lit the fire - I'm not moving! I say "lit the fire" but as you will know there are no fire lighters left so I am in the world of unknown - paper, lint from the tumble dryer, pie cones and kindlling - just got to try and keep it going long enough to catch - here's hoping.

Wel - its another NSD here. I had home made soup from the freezer for lunch and liver and bacon from the freezer are cooking in the slow cooker - just got to cook the mash and I am there - there is some mixed veg from the freezer in the slow cooker as well. Real comfort food. Keep warm everyone - only 6 more days of this challenge - but I agree with others - I need another "batten down the hatches " month in february. xx

Hi everyone, I have picked my DGD from school and shes staying overnight with me, so DD and OH can have a date night, so we are having fish finger baps for tea - yum yum love them:)

Ninno and Kerfuffle - Rosie is a guinea pig and very cute to, she is grey and white with just one rosette on top of her head - hence the name and I spoil her rotten:) but as she was an orphan whose parents just kept bullying her I think she is worth spoiling, that doesnt make sense does it but anyway shes worth it :rotfl:(orphan with parents)

Abundant your bakery story made me chuckle out loud, and I will be hoping to slip on some snow near one soon:rotfl:

Ninno also jealous of your sewing class (well I hope it was you:))in days gone by in the not too distant past I bought a sewing machine with the idea of making all sorts of things and it just sits in the corner of the bedroom scaring the wits out of me:rotfl:

Anyway not much to report, another nsd and with the food I have in I reckon I'll be OK for Feb so looking forwards to Feb challange KAT

Take care and keep warm everyone

Yes - it was me but sadly tomorrow has been cancelled due to snow:mad:. I feel as if my whole weekend has been cancelled so am going to plan some organising type activity for tomorrow and turn it into a positive. Its a shame because you get 6 hours of tuition for £15 and it feels as if you have 6 hours of me time. Perhaps some may feel that its a luxury but we all need a little something to look forward to.

    Hello everyone!!!

Hoorah - it's weekend!!!... and payday!!!

Sat down and crunched the numbers... debts dropped to below the 10K mark again which feels good... and finally got my Emergency Fund up to £1000. Have started a new virtual budget pot for 'Misc Spends'... things like haircuts/prescriptions etc so that if they crop up I don't have to dip into my grocery/spend allowance again.

My new promotion and pay rise equates to... wait for it... an extra... 44p per hour... which doesn't sound much, but over the weeks and months it will... am just going to imagine every day £3 shiny pound coins going off my debts. I cleared any excess I earned on top of my usual so that I don't start getting used to having a bit extra.

I was going to allow £60 per week for Feb (£15 Petrol, £25 Spends and £20 Grocery) but after reading everyone's threads I have also warmed to the idea of battening down the hatches and slashing that... Will wait and see what February's challenge holds in store and adjust things then...

Today also = NSD number 17

All in all a great day!!!

Hi all, Scotlands finally got the snow this afternoon! Up to our knees in it, sooooo cheap weekend planned, thinking along the lines of going sledging with the kids and dogs, then home to vats of soup and movies!

I dont think i've done too badly this month, it was hard and i'm not going to make the spend days but I definately have come to the end of Jan with spare cash so that beats any other Jan for as long as I can remember!
I cant wait until Febs challenge is released as well, its great, just as the motivation for this month starts to wear thin a shiney new challenge to boost the frugality mwahaha!
  • Evening everyone

Haven't posted much this week as have been rushing round like a mad thing with work/kids/more work etc etc.

The bad news is I don't think I will make the NSD target now bit will still get as many as I can. The other targets are still doable though.

The good news is I was paid today and have been able to pay off £700 from my debt. Much more than I had thought I'd be able to and its all because of this challenge - thanks NSK and everyone taking part or cheering us on!!

I have £450 left to pay which means since Jan 2012 I will have paid off £5600!!!!!! Its been such hard work but I'm a month away from the end and it feels fantastic!!

I may have some extra hours at work in February so that will help. Once the debt is paid off I have a wish list of things to do/buy :rotfl: but it will all be paid for with cash - No more credit cards for me!!

It sounds like alot of us are ready to batten down the hatches next month... along as i can buy YS i will survive :j We had some reduced fresh vegetable soup from M and S for tea was lush...

Abundant i now have visions of those rice cakes again though....... :rotfl:

I however have discovered i have a supply of those round dutch crispbreads if you run short of rice cakes

Nothing else to report here today no more snow at present but think it may be more flooded in my area when what we have melts - they are predicting a fast melt over the weekend - luckily i dont live near any water :D

No pay day for me til next thursday but really want to sort out budgets...

Have a good weekend everyone and stay safe :grinheart

Evening all just popping in before sleep

Had a truly awful day at work and was hoping for a nice wind down to the week, but not to be, no breakfast, no lunch just banana and cup a soup on the run and a lot of verbal abuse, BUT had a NSD and the feeling that I am not going to be in any more debt at the end of January so onwards and upwards.

Got home late so missed meal out with friend (preplanned spend) and nothing planned for dinner so had jam and bread instead, was yum.

Whilst idly opening mail came across thick envelope from taxman, have overpayed for last 4 years and am due rebate of £801.67p!!!!! cheque in the post and have higher tax code for next year woo hoo! All I could think was 'could this be counted as make £155 part of the challenge?'

I would just encourage anyone who pays prof fees, union fees or wears a uniform to make a claim.

Looking forward to the Feb challenge as I can now pay the insurances without having to worry about Peter and Paul and can look at my debt box knowing it will be a little lighter.

Night peeps, off to bed in 3 layers of nightwear.......very fetching look if I may say so!
