we did visit Pierrefonds castle where Merlin was filmed :)

We went to Pierrefonds castle too and it's not far at all from Croix De Vieux Point (though we have never stayed at that site but it always gets good reviews). When we went there were quite a few bits of Merlin set still constructed which was pretty cool to see ... but since Merlin is all finished now I'm not sure if it they'll leave any of the set or take it all down?

Hoping to get to Tummel Valley again in Scotland this time. We went a few years ago but have never managed to get the dates we wanted again since and it's such a lovely location :)
  • Thinking about going to France for the first time using Sun holidays - the thought fills me with dread as its bad enough trying to find a nice place to stay in this country!
Can anybody recommend any family friendly sites within a 2-3 hour (max) drive from Calais? I have two children 5 and (nearly) 2.
    Thank you :-)

If you don't have a Sun Priority code & can't book online, it may be worth having a look at the Daily Mail offer, same parks, sames dates, same extra charges although it is advertised as £15 pp thats for a luxury caravan, you can choose a standard for £10pp and booking is open now, including for Easter & Half Term & weekend of July 19th when most schools break up are all available.

There is a £2.80 online booking charge but if you go through TopCashBack it's 4.04% so covers most of that.

All codes are there so can book straight away and get immediate confirmation of your holiday. I got Butlins in Easter Hols for £42.80 for the 4 of us! (Even with the added extra's it's still working out less than half price than anything else I could find advertised discount codes included.

They also have the European Parks available too.

Jemma, one people seem to rave about is La Croix De Vieux Pont which is number 208 in the parks list. Just zapped it in the route finder from Calais and it says it's about 2hr 30 mins. It always seems to get decent reviews but I've never stayed so can't vouch directly for it.

If you want to drive no distance at all we have stayed at La Bien Assise (number 203 in Sun site list) which is only about 20 minutes from Calais. It's a lovely campsite, and seems popular with families. Boulogne sur Mer is only about a half hour/45 mins down the main road and has a great beach with plenty of parking by the sea front.
