Hear the story here (and Ed Miliband's offer of hope for dads and mums battling to stay afloat and working and for those facing rejection from job after job.) Makes a very good point about the real reason peoples curtains are closed all the time... ps in some areas round here I'd have Cameron know... it's to keep the heat in! Ignorance of real peoples lives.)

I regularly walk 11 miles just because I like it: it shows what a super rich nation we are, that doing something like that is considered remarkable; or it may show how out of touch Ed is.
Maybe, if the cost of employing people were lower and there was a lot less red tape and costs about employing new people then there would be more jobs.0 -

My Grandmother in law walked 5 miles to and from work each day , twice as she did split shifts.
We had a 16 year old guy who travelled from Stornoway to Aberdeen jsut for a recruitment fare.
He didn't have good grades, however he impressed in his desire to get a job and how he presented himself during the fare.
He's since been given the opportunity through one of our apprenticeship offerings despite his poor grades because of the desire he showed.
Maybe the guy who walked 11 miles for the interview will have impressed by his desire and commitment.:wall:
What we've got here is....... failure to communicate.
Some men you just can't reach.

How's he going to get into work if he gets the job? This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

Think he might walk. He could get a push bike.0

Walking 22 miles per day. No money for a bus fare. He could have at least asked the employer for the money for a bus fare to get to/from the interview. Most employers in my experience will help by paying the £4.50 to get to/from the interview then once they have the job they'll advance enough for a weekly bus fare so that the employee can get to/from work. Some people really need to learn to save and not spend every single penny that comes in. What is he doing with his £71.00 a week? Live on basic food and turn things off in house to reduce the gas/electric bills. Stop paying every unsecured debt and there will be enough left over to save a little for a bus fare.Clifford_Pope wrote: »How's he going to get into work if he gets the job?:footie:
Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

Once you have that precious status symbol (a job) you have the key to everything else... you have credibility! People start to believe in you... banks, family, friends, charitiies etc - then they will lend a hand to get you started. Sad thing is... millions are trying and not gettiing that first shred of self-esteem.
PS Watch the video and find out whether he got it?0 -

I think most britons have good decent hearts that don't want to see helpless tryers sufferng and would say 'Well Done Mate!' Miserable cold water pourers are in the minority.
About the £71, didnt you know that many job hunters arent getting anything? Dont you watch the news? Hence food banks....0 -
I used to walk the two miles to and from work every day for years, it woke me up in the morning and was actually quicker than waiting for and getting the two buses necessary. And cheaper, and it kept me fit and I could do my shopping on the way home with no extra effort. My work collegues all thought I was crazy. When I changed jobs I had a six mile journey to work that took two buses again and what with the scheduling would have taken me over an hour and a half. I got my bike out and cycled, it took twenty-five minutes instead.
An eleven mile cycle would take about an hour for an averagely fit person, unless it was all uphill. Just saying.....Val.0
