On a slightly related note I discovered this http://charityshopchic.net/ blog last night and read most of it. Some of the things she's restyled are incredible. I'm so jealous that I have neither the skill nor the imagination but I'm feeling very inspired now :)

I am so inspired. I am rubbish at sewing but have 2 sewing machines and can do basic things like tablecloths (straight lines) . I think this has inspired me to upcycle a little more and try to make things out of what I already have got. Might make myself a denim skirt, or denim shirt or denim bag or denim patchwork quilt with my 19 pairs of jeans !!! :rotfl:

Just a thought, Miss Empty Piggy (love the name!).

If you have TWO sewing machines, could you sell one and use the funds towards something you know you will really enjoy wearing? Someone else may benefit from getting a machine at a good price. It also declutters one and gives you a bit of free space.

Good luck with remodelling your jeans. Do let us know how you get on.
Because of my disability I tend to hide my legs and not wear skirts, but if you've got it - flaunt it!

  • I spent £8 on a pretty top yesterday so new total is

    048 £14/£500

I havent got around to gluing the boots yet but now the other boot has 2 rips in the same place as the 1st boot... Hmm so why is that happening? Will have to have a think.

That's a brilliant idea, they're not great but I suppose that would make a great deal of sense. I got given both of them so wouldn't loose anything. Thanks I think I will definitely do that. :j

  • I'm going to the library today to try and get out some kind of "How to Sew/Dressmake/Quilt" book today to further the plan for upcycling.

Hope you all have a lovely day:j

Ok here I go with a further update.

Bought the purple top for £7.68 reduced from £32 and a bag for £1.50 with student discount reduced from £8. Todays total comes to £9.18

    No.7 total = £67.28/200

Looks a big total so no more spends until the next round of 70% off sales if it includes a couple of tops I saw today but there is no way I'm paying full price after getting these ones recently for 70% off - I'll stick to my iron will and wait for the sales and see if my size is left.

Still have a giftcard to use so any spends over next couple of months will be on that - have my eye on a heavily reduced blouse but it may be a little on the big side - will see

  • Spent £12 today at DP getting a new dress (which to be fair is gorgeous and will get a lot of wear come springtime) so new total is £19.98/£250
  • :j:j:j:jWell done everyone. :j:j:j:j

I've had a no spend January - am so happy. Every time I so much as look at clothing I think of this challenge and think "do I really need it?". I think I will have to buy myself some tights though soon. I've got two pairs on today to hide the holes in one pair which doesn't correspond with the holes in the pair on top. They're under my dress so can't be seen but thought a ladder might 'travel' down my leg, plus it's freezing here today. Do tights count do you think? I think I will include them so trying desperately to find some more lying around the house somewhere! Also need to mend the boots that I bought on boxing day which have split. I could return them but really can't be bothered and I really like them so am thinking I will glue them somehow. I have quite wide feet so this happens to me a lot as I don't buy wide shoes to accommodate them! Here's to a spend free January.

sorry my proper update is late £0/£250 for me. :j

Am not 100% sure but I think tights in the original CCCC were a safe item that could be bought and not counted. They are essentials to any girls wardrobe really - I think if you need them because the ones you have are now unwearable then it justifies to replace them -so I wouldn't personally count them in my budget . HTH

Well its my birthday tomorrow and I am hoping that the b'day bunny brings a gift card or two my way or maybe something wearable at least - we shall see:)

Not been well this week either so have been slouching around in leggings and sloppy jumpers - did go into town today and mooched about but at the moment I don't need anything so I was a good girls and didn't bother looking either!:)

Keep up the good work everyone - just putting a figure to the amount we spend is half the battle and keeping that figure in mind when out shopping just helps - if it helps, cut out a piece of card to the same shape and size of your bank card and write in big figures your budget amount for the year and lower it each time you buy a item, put it front of your bank card in your purse and it could help to remind you how much you have left.Just a thought.
