Heeeelp - bought the second set of drawers for my wardrobe. All neatly tidied away with odds & sods gone to Sally Army. DGD came in tonight with late Christmas presents so my toiletries 'stash' is even bigger. I just seem to do one step forward, two steps back.
I WILL declutter I WILL declutter........ bumbles off muttering into distance

  • Ended up buying a Nivea set thought that's good for £2.99. I don't need any of the contents. It came up as £4.99. So the universe spoke loud and clear... and said actually I think you'll find you don't need that. So back it went.
Yay!!! well done you!!! It takes a lot of arguing with yourself to do that doesn't it? I tend to voice my thoughts though, no wonder people look strangely at me: "no, you don't need it"; "but it's so pretty"; "but it's clutter and you'll have to dust it"; "but it's so pretty and if I don't get it now it might not be there when I do want it".... etc. etc.

Had a good day today, I blitzed the ironing pile. It wasn't actually that bad in the end, it was just piled high because there were 2 loads of bedding on top of all the clothes which made it look a lot more. I folded all the bedding and put it away, then started off by doing the tea towels, hand towels and pillow cases, just to ease me in gently. I then got on to ironing my stuff. Hubby is very good, he does all his own ironing, but leaves mine for me. More often or not I just wear it without being ironed. I hate ironing and after half an hour the creases have fallen out anyway. But today, I ironed all my clothes in the basket, apart from those that I chucked out (I'm not that fond of ironing that I'd iron things for the charity bag!). I even did 2 of his t-shirts, and one of his shirts!!!

He'd been out and when he came back asked if an alien had been and replaced me! (yes, it's that rare that I iron clothes!)

I've also tackled the bathroom today with the steam cleaner, but to be honest it's just as good doing it with bathroom cleaner, white vinegar and good old elbow grease. Think maybe the steam cleaner was a waste of money....

So, my bumper crop of 'outs' today:

    54. Mini rucksack - charity bag
    55. 1 jacket of mine - homeless shelter bag
56-62. 7 tops of mine - homeless shelter bag
    63. 1 pair trousers - homeless shelter bag
    64. Scrapbook given to youngest on her 21st and been kept here ever since (5 1/2 years!). Taken back to her today
    65. Pair of slip on slippers that keep on slipping off - charity bag
    66. 2 pottery dishes (ornament type) - charity shop
    67. Rest of bottle of bleach used cleaning bathroom - bottle in recycling
    68. Loads of beaded jewellery I was given - charity shop
    69. Shoe box from OH new walking boots - recycling. (I am tempted to keep this - it might come in useful!!!)

I've got a friend coming tomorrow who takes clothes for the homeless shelter, so she will get those, and as we're making morsbags, some of the fabric stash will get used up too.

I just need a few more days like today....

  • Today was meant to be my first big day of decluttering however I had torn priorities.

Wednesday is my day off work and now the kids are back at school the only day I have to get as many jobs done as possible but I also need to lose at least 6 stone in weight so my choice today was either to declutter or get out with a friend for a long walk in the sunshine with a stop at a tea shop half way for a drink.

Decision was made that I could use decluttering as an excuse not to get out and exercise or I could actually do something about the weight loss and get out for a walk on the basis that if I get on with the weight loss there will be more energy for the decluttering.

3 hours spent out this morning - 2 of them walking and 1 in the tea shop chatting - it was a lovely morning and didn't feel like exercise at all. Once I got home and recovered a bit I spent half an hour decluttering before picking kids up from school it wasn't the full day I'd planned but still better than nothing. Gone today - 5 magazines, lots of envelopes & adverts that came through the post and a few more toys.

Put some paperwork in a folder ready to be filed away and some instruction books for kitchen gadgets put to one side to go in the instruction booklet box but I'm now sitting thinking do I really need to keep them - one is for a toaster which to be honest I never plan to sell and will probably replace if it ever breaks so do I really need to keep the instruction book?????????

  • I have been a little stuck with the deluttering to be honest, not really knowing what to do next.
Today I got a call to go for an interview tomorrow at 9.30 am, so I had a nice long bath and went to the wardrobe to sort out what I was going to wear, the bedroom is not too bad at the moment so I can actually get to the drawers and whatnot, that has not always been the case, anyway, I have 3 suits, well I did I am now down to just one......my shape seems to have changed, I haven't actually put any weight on but my bust appears to have got bigger so hardly any blouses fit any more, (I would have killed for a bigger bust when I was younger :) why couldn't this have happened when I was 19 rather than 49) also my arms are HUGE, two of the jackets are so uncomfortable on the arms I could not wear, I have never heard of this before.
So after the interview tomorrow I shall be having a clear out of my wardrobe.
