Out with the old tat and in with the improved stuff!

We have been declutering since February and have been round the whole house. All sorts got re homed.
Now we have moved on to improving the look. No, it was not a tip to start with but there is always room for improvement.

Yesterday we replaced half of our fence panels and the old ones went to the recycle centre.
Found a really nice electric reclining chair in cs so oh's old one went to the recycle centre.
New cs spring/summer curtains for the kitchen. Flowers. A change can make a big difference.

Have decluttered and cleaned my bathroom within an inch of its life!redecorated it last week but needed a good tidy up to finish it! Did a pile of ironing whilst watching soap usually do ironing on sun night so I'm a head of myself.... Gonna write a to do list and hav a relaxing evening...fingers crossed kids sleep! Got rid of loads of painting stuff from shed today and gave my sis a pair of trousers that r just too small! Hav now completed my p333 spring wardrobe ... Have loved choosing new outfits from the mix. Children's clothes r still an ongoing issue... I really struggle when I see bargains! Keep telling myself no but it not working! Meanwhile their wardrobes are full to the seams!

I just feel that our house looks so dated, been here 26 years now. We also seem to have collected kids' things that they have left here.

OH wont accept that having an iPod means he doesn't have to keep loads of records or CDs.

I can't believe I haven't found this thread before now!!!

I am obsessed with having things clean & organised, and have a methodical declutter every 3 months or so. I am in the middle of a clear out now...

I have had a few new realisations:
I can't/ don't want to beat myself up for past purchases - they were wanted (rightly or wrongly) at the time. If they are no longer "me" or truly wanted, I am not going to force myself to keep them/use them. It's time to start over with a clean slate. I don't want to waste any more energy on this. I am getting rid of a ton of stuff, and I will allow myself to buy new things that I want/that are more me... and accept that at some point they will no longer be wanted/relevant and I will get rid of them then.

Today I sorted through a third of my clothes. I had a pile of no way, maybe and definately want to keep. I will probably get rid of most of the maybe pile, as is there any point in keeping things I am actually not sure about?
I had so many old clothes... some more than 10 years old. It's time to let them go and update myself.

    Tomorrow:
I will do some kitchen decluttering, and then possibly look at the rest of my clothes!

All the best to everyone with their decluttering x

Polly, I know what you mean. about dated stuff.I think my most dated is some photo's.
I have thrown out books and dvd's. I mainly have cookery books now as I read from my kindle. The dvd's I gave to a new home as I got fed up of watching the same films.Kept a few the family liked after asking them.

Just posted 2 more Amazon sales, making 8 this week :T

Warning ~ the following is a rant

Our offer on the house wasn't accepted. Instead they went with a developer, who's going to go in and gut the place then sell it for thousands more than we can afford . There aren't many properties in our price range and it really angers and upsets me that this happens. It's because of developers that come in, buy cheap, do up cheap and sell high, that price ordinary people out of the market  . To be in with a slight chance of getting anywhere we need another £50-70K deposit. We've already saved a huge amount and I just feel like giving up now :(.

    Rant over
    Mortgage: Was: £154,495 Oct 2039 Now: £81,810.42 May 2037
    Swagbucks ~ £155 (2024 ~ £395)
    Surveys ~ £167.59 (2024 ~ £280.14)
    Make £2025 in 2025 #5 ~ £1,406.55 ~ (2024 ~ £2,561.04)

purplevamp, I am really sorry your offer wasn't accepted. I totally agree about developers they are stopping me and OH getting on the property ladder as well. I hope you don't give up, you will get your house one day!

Sending you a big hug to make you feel a tiny bit better.

Today I have been out in the garden for 2 hours or so dealing with the weed & dandelions, I am hoping dealing with them now means we can enjoy the garden more in the Summer. Also, I find it a good way at relaxing. I have also made some paper logs from our shredded paperwork.

My aim for the rest of the day is to sort out another box in the utility room.
