Does anyone get Broadband through phone line with Virgin/NTL ??
Maybe you only have Phone line, don't have Cable TV, & get Broadband through phone line.

I presume your talking about Virgin Media (Non Cable) Broadband.

Which requires you to have a BT line to use it.
I have got it,at a cost of £5.00 a month .Its only 1mb but it suits me.:D0 -

I get cable TV/2Mb Broadband service through set top box, also get phone.
I have problems with my Broadband speed in evenings, getting 300-600kb/s, should be getting 2Mb/s.
Made numerous complaints & had numerous engineer visits.
Been told my area suffers from congestion.
I speak to man 2 doors away, ask if he has Broadband & is with Virgin/NTL.
He says he does, does not have any problems with speed !!!!!! :mad:
He says he doesn't have cable TV, he is with Virgin Media, "gets Broadband through phone". They reconnected phone & he has no problems with Broadband speed & that it's very fast.
I'm not sure how he is getting his Broadband:
-through cable (& he mistakenly said it was through phoneline)
-through NTL installed phoneline (cable phoneline)??
-through BT originally installed phoneline (non cable phoneline)??
Can you get Broadband through Virgin/NTL phoneline in a Cabled area ??

i've had the BB through the phone line ( cable modem) for the last 6 yrs.i've been having speed/proxy issues for well over a yr now.i was on 10meg but downgraded and i have fewer probs on the 4meg.this site is terrible @ times though0

When you say you get BB through phoneline, what exactly do you mean ??
Do you get
Cable Broadband ??
or ADSL Broadband (filter/splitter on phoneline goes to modem & phone) ??
How is your modem connected to Virgin/NTL:
-directly to wall through coax cable (cable broadband) ??
-or to the phoneline filter/splitter (ADSL broadband) ??
Look at following, how is yours connected ??

I don't see any Help pages that show connection to ADSL broadband.

i answered the BB through a phoneline cos i thought you wanted to know of anybody having probs.
anyway although i have the phone and BB with them the BB cable isn't attached to the phoneline ( was getting confused)-it has it's own cabling.cable comes through the wall from the brown box and the cable modem is attached at the other end.i get cable BB.didnt understand why you put those links but hope you know what i mean now.reading your original post.what exactly was you wanting to know?0 -

It's separate from phoneline.
(Broadband on BT lines is ADSL Broadband through phoneline).

He may be wrong, as he said he "gets his Broadband through phoneline".

They reconnected his line to NTL, so I assume they would reconnect to NTL cable phoneline.
I assume in cable areas new phone customers are automatically connected to cable system.
But I'm not certain, as my conversation with him has raised unexpected questions about my own Broadband service.
I've had so many engineer visits & complaints to Customer Service, I thought I understood what was going on (congestion in my area) & that I didn't have easy solution (they say my area is due for network hardware upgrade).
I need to speak to my neighbour again & investigate.
It may be getting Broadband through separate Cable Modem rather Set-Top Box (combined for Tv/broadband) might be solution, but I don't know.
(maybe set-top box handling of broadband is causing problem).

Because he's in a longterm cabled area, I've had NTL for over 12 years.
Just because someone is in a cabled area doesn't mean that they will be getting Virgin BB via cable! If they subscribed to Virgin before the takeover, the choice was open to them. Lots of users prefer to keep telephony via a BT line to get free calls etc.
Virgin Media was a re-branding of NTL/Telewest earlier this year but there are thousands who still get their broadband with VM via a BT line. There will also still be many areas of the country where it may never be cabled, as it costs a lot of money to lay the infrastructure.:doh: Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
I'm fuming!! I just phoned VM on the basis that they are offering new customers 3 for £30pm with tv xl package + I'm not happy with the loss of Sky channels- I'm on £30pm for Telephone/ Starter TV and Broadband size M. Ive been a Telewest customer for phone and BB for a number of years now and am miffed that new customers are getting a better deal for the same price. Up till jan this year i had the freeview box and was quite happy with that, then out of the blue VM telephoned me to ask if I'd be interested in their basic tv package- I was dubious because I didnt want to be paying extra out each month (I'm a pensioner so funds are limited). No one mentioned to me about the 12 months contract for the tv box, nor did I sign any agreement to that effect. Now Ive been told that I cannot cancel the tv because of this 12 month rule. Looks like I'm stuck with the boring tv channels till next year. I'm off to look around for a new ISP. That's their lot from me!!:mad:
