I don't drink at all so as a result I've never liked parties which are often full of drunk people being revolting. They deserve every hangover or moment of photo-on-internet infamy that they get IMHO  .

The television programming is mostly utterly awful, so I will simply fire up the computer and do some gaming until I go to bed.....which then heralds other events that I could do without:
Even if we go to bed as usual, we will all get woken by the local fireworks going off at midnight and which lasts anything up to 2a.m. depending on the selfishness of those idiot people who don't care about neighbours or animals  .
The fireworks won't be quite as maddening this year as our old dog has now died, but it used to be absolute hell for the poor terrified animal (& therefore for us too, trying to comfort her) every year - even with the curtains drawn and double glazed windows shut tight.

So New Year's Eve is always a non-event as far as I'm concerned. Frankly, my dears, I don't give a damn! :D

Don't rely on other people for your entertainment.
Make your own fun. Go to the cinema & then get a pizza or go bowling.
It doesn't matter if you're home before midnight.

So glad to hear I'm not the only one disillusioned with new year!

We had contemplated going out...to the same pub we have gone to for the last few years...but I can't be bothered. I'm trying to cut down on the drinking and the problem is that people we know run the pub and you get all sorts of stick if you have soft drinks! I just can't be doing with the hassle.

We've been meaning to see The Life of Pi so we'll probably go tomorrow...I'm wondering whether to cook a nice meal or just get a takeaway, and stick Jools on ;)
  • I am SO pleased there are other people out there who really can't stand the fuss surrounding New Years Eve! I haven't "celebrated" NYE for 12 years now and don't feel I am missing out - as far as I am concerned my problems are not going to magically disappear just because a new year is beginning!

DH on the other hand loves it and usually spends it at his Mum's house with his extended family, which is great as I get the bed to myself for a night! This year however, due to sad family circumstances he isn't going to his Mum's - so have booked tickets for him to take our 12 year old daughter to the cinema (also to see Life of Pi!) after seeing the suggestion on here.

I am hoping to be tucked up in bed at a reasonable hour with a good book :D (Only to be woken by the inevitable fireworks at midnight - another pet hate of mine!)
  • last year we had a little party for my 2 kids and one of my daugthers friends where we celebrated each hour with the country that was celebrating new year in one of there tradtions eg throwing coins in the air, we also made a time capsule to be opened this year and played games it was great fun.

this year we r going bowling and for a meal out then coming home to play games and do our time capsule for next year
  • Just me and the cat again this year I hates NYE growing up my mum and dad always went out and they still do. I have been out a few times it was ok but very busy. Next year my mum says she is doing a party. But this year I will be having a bath and watching a movie. Might watch the fireworks on tv at midnight and then wait for the drunk texts to come in and the phone calls.
    I would like to be a glow-worm.
    A glow-worm's never glum.
Its hard to be downhearted when the sun shines out your bum.
