Otherwise radical surgery on the box is required and the use of some software.

I am also looking to get a recorder with a very limited budget, the manager's special from Humax is great! thanks guys :T
One question though, is it worth spending extra getting a HD one? I am after a Freeview recorder and not sure if HD recorder is going to be a trend very soon.0 -
Getting the HD version future proofs you for a bit, especially if you have an HD ready Telly.
There are only 4 HD channels on Freeview atm though. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
ok im gionna go down the copy+ route. can you direct me to a suitable caddy for the sky box
before i perform surgery.
ive got my humax now and my sky goes off in 30 days0 -
Don't forget with the Humax you can also program the remote to control your TV & DVD too.
Also to get some of the other benefits of a having a PVR you will need to be watching the PVR output / using its EPG as a matter of course rather than the normal TV tuners.
This will mean you can then pause, rewind the current TV prog you are watching etc etc
Then the only reason to revert to watching the normal TV tuners output is in the rare case when you are recording 2 channels and want to watch a 3rd
(ignoring the fact that that Humax can watch 3 channels if 2 on same mux)0 -
just plugged in the humax and it has just rebooted itself after about 30 mins of use. is it a faulty unit or can i update the firmware

metal.mickey - the firmware/software is updated over the air. There hasn't been an update for ages, but then if yours has been sitting on the shelf for ages maybe it's not up to date. You can go in and get it to check for an update manually, or it'll do it overnight. I wouldn't be worried about just 1 reboot, give it a week and make sure it records properly and everything.
Also - what exactly are you planning to do with the recordings you copy off your Sky box? You know that you can only play them on the Sky box? (except the BBC and other unencrypted channels).0
