im thinking of cancelling sky and have been give a freeview box (Bush BFSAT01HFD). I intend to connect the freesat box to the exisiting sky dish and get a prv to replace the sky+box.

If you want PVR functions via your old Sky dish then you only have one option-a Freesat PVR. A Freeview box will not work with a dish, it requires an external aerial. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
i was assuming that the freesat box would traslate the incoming signal to the tv and the pvr would record that translated signal no?
dish>>>>freesat>>>>>TV
dish>>>>freesat>>>prv>>>tv?

No, a PVR records from it's own twin built-in tuners. A Freeview PVR has Freeview tuners, which cannot receive a satellite signal (Freesat or Freesat from Sky). Two entirely different platforms. No free lunch, and no free laptop0

By all means post the PVR's make & model number and I'll see if I can find the relevant info, later. No, a PVR records from it's own twin built-in tuners. A Freeview PVR has Freeview tuners, which cannot receive a satellite signal (Freesat or Freesat from Sky). Two entirely different platforms.0 -
Surely the point here is that even if it is possible, the OP will only be able to record the TV output from the channel being viewed-which is not the purpose for which most people require a PVR?No free lunch, and no free laptop0

As long as you have a twin feed (which you will have if you had Sky+), it's a direct box swap.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -

No, it's for attaching a USB drive to watch external material. If you want to save recorded programmes to it then you'll need to completely re-format it to that of the Humax which will render it useless for anything else.
Is the 500GB Humax drive not big enough for you?“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0
