Positive Steps Challenge 2013

  • Morning all,

Had a letter from Natwest today about my credit card with them, definitely less encouraging than MBNA :( they will accept reduced payments for 12 months and then review after that, but will be sending the default notices out soon and will register it with credit reference agencies. I'm just finding this so scary to face up to, does that make me a complete wimp? The (very nice) people at CAP Money explained that this would probably happen and that there's no way round it really, but it's better to accept that it will affect your credit file with a DMP than affecting it with an inability to pay anything at all. I'm hoping that's true.....

So, my positive step for today will be to try to stop panicking, ring CAP if necessary and take stock of where I'm up to. I can't think that I'm up to much else at the moment!
Finally debt free!! March 2018 :j
  • PS I also know that it affecting my ability to obtain credit is a good thing in some ways, as I clearly am no good with the responsibility of having any!!

Having just been through this the way i saw it was any missed payments would affect my credit file anyway and any defaults will be followed up with regular payments showing - this will show on your file as you doing something to try and sort the situation out. The main thing is to keep those regular payments going (so make sure you are able to meet these)

You are not a wimp, it is very scary taking these first steps but it will get better very soon. You will get letters saying all sorts of things - you will probably get some worse letters than the ones you have so far BUT the main thing is to focus on the fact you are doing your best to sort the situation and it willllllll get easier i promise!!!!

Re ur credit file, i am now in the process of rebuilding mine. Don't worry about what the defaults mean on your file for the future - you can deal with that later (and its easier than you might think). Small steps for now, and focus on the fact you will be able to meet the obligation to pay what you have agreed AND your financial situation will be much improved on a daily basis. Once that bit kicks in you will know you are making progress. xxx

Gosh, you all sound so busy!

Rubyslippers, you're allowed to feel like a wimp (even though you're not) because it is scary but it's all steps in the right direction :)

Sir Pac, if you'd like some help with the rising and shining at 5am, I have 3 cats I can send your way to help you out of bed...the two old ones would be no use as they can sleep for England. In fact, I've been known to nudge one on occasions just to make sure he's just asleep and nothing worse!

I REALLY need to sort that bedside cabinet out as this morning I smeared shower gel all over my leg instead of body lotion this morning:rotfl:

thank you for the offer, but how about NO, lol :rotfl:

Now, if you know a 40-something single female, who could bring me my first cup of water of the day, then you can talk...

I say water because one of my new rules is to not start the day with a coffee (or tea for that matter). In fact, no coffee for the first two hours upon waking, and so far, I've stuck with it (mind you, I only made up the new rule this morning, so blar)

:j Make £10 a day challenger - it pays for trips to Florida! :j
  • Thank you to everyone for the encouragement :) it's the lovely folk like you that keep me going. No-one else I know seems to have money worries (although I know that's probably an illusion, as none of my friends know the extent of mine!) so it's a real help to have you all to chat to.

Sooooo, my positive steps for today - it's already Thursday! - are:

    1. Send the Natwest letter on to CAP Money to see what they need me to do, if anything.
    2. Pay for the car brakes to be sorted and see how much money I have left for July after that. MOT is due September, if it doesn't pass I may do a SORN declaration and see how I get on without a car for a while; in the meantime it's worth £80 to keep it on the road for a bit longer.
    3. Now I'm further along with sorting out my finances, albeit in a baby steps kind of way, I'd like to apply the same logic to sorting out my food & exercise in order to lose a few pounds - probably between half a stone and a stone. Any ideas on how I can do this gratefully received.....

Have a good day everyone and thanks again!
Finally debt free!! March 2018 :j
