Personally, I won't touch skinless chicken breasts, I find them too boring and prefer chicken thighs, drumsticks, quarters, legs and wings.

Breast meat is also poor nutritionally, protein and water and little else. Even for vitamin B12 they are rubbish. http://nutritiondata.self.com/facts/poultry-products/10048/2

Compare to the same weight of chicken livers, the difference is startling http://nutritiondata.self.com/facts/poultry-products/666/2

I stopped buying nearly so many chicken breasts after I realised how much it was costing and how much we were getting through a week. The trigger was reading an article in Good Food Magazine. I can't remember the exact figures but you can save yourself hundreds of pounds each year, by buying a whole chicken and either cutting it up into the different cuts yourself or cooking it whole, say for Sunday roast and then making different meals out of it. I'd like to bet you'll save far more than if you continue to buy chicken breasts which is also an unsustainable way of eating.

Just thought I'd add that the garlic overload probably made those burgers taste better...

I wouldn't actually recommend the mince, tesco lean steak mince is much nicer and not so coarse.

The chicken comes with a huge thumbs up though!

I decided to order from Clare Barry after reading about them on MSE. My first delivery arrived today. The chicken will hopefully taste better than it looks, as there are several large strands of fat for me to cut off first. There are also a few black spots, presumably from where the breast is removed from the bone. My 13 year old son is washing and trimming as I type (he's a good lad, brought me omelette and beans that he'd made this morning - I don't get breakfast in bed very often, and it isn't even my birthday!)

I have also ordered chicken mince, pork mince, and pork loin steaks. I was surprised to find that the mince (both types) was frozen though, as it doesn't mention this on the descriptions. We were going to have pork mince made into meat balls, with pasta, for tea, but as I dislike defrosting meat in the microwave, we had to have something else instead. We're having some of the chicken breasts for tea tomorrow. I just hope they taste as good as everyone says :)

  • My first order from Clare Barry arrived yesterday.
Ordered last week for Wednesday delivery as I was off work that day - received email at 9pm on Tuesday night to say goods hadn't been despatched due to courier problem and would now be delivered on Thursday  Emailed back to say only at home on Thursday until lunchtime then would be out and not back until this morning - no response ! I called them yesterday morning and they said hadn't received my email ?... what ? and didn't appear to be overly concerned - delivery would be left in a safe place etc etc etc -explained I would be gone overnight and didn't want goods left outside. Still unconcerned. Goods did eventually arrive before I left but I'm put off to become a loyal customer I'm afraid,

Chicken looks ok, mince frozen despite this not being mentioned online - sausages and steaks look nice -time will tell.

Put it down to experience me thinks -shame really as people on here rave about them and that's what prompted me to give them a go.

  • The chicken fillets were tasty and didn't shrink, but they did take some preparation to remove the fat and the black bits (not on every fillet, fat on about half of them and black bits on about five or six). I'll report back on the mince once we've tried it.
