Going to make a slight change to tonights plan. Was supposed to be pork with butternut squash & spuds of some description but I want to use the squash in tomorrow nights veggie curry and I'm not really in the mood for a meat&two-veg type meal. Particularly not with the selection of veg we currently have in. So instead I'm going to use the pork for a stir-fry - fits much better with the veg that need using first. Still on plan with the ingredients, just going to put them together in a slightly different way!

Still sticking to the plan. I've planned for the next 3 weeks. During half term I'll re-stock the freezer with meals - lasagne, cheese and onion pie, sausage casserole etc.

I have found this month harder to plan, like some others have, but knowing that I have saved money and time is keeping me going.

Fab thread, may I join too please?

I'm batch cooking rather than doing daily plans and grab a home made ready meal out of the freezer each day. I badly needed inspiration though, which this thread has been super for.

Plan to do a new dish each week too, must try toad in the hole and need to learn how to make potato wedges!

    Thanks folks!

    Hi All
Not done this for a while but you guys have given me the inspiration to get planning. I have always only done 1 week at a time but usually just shop in 1 of the big 3 supermarkets. This is out of convenience as I work full time and struggle to go round different shops. Today I have decidded I will go to both Al** and A**a as there is shoppind centre (not my closest) that the 2 are close together. But to save doing same thing next week I thought I would try to plan 2 weeks so I could get the bulk of my grocery shopping today with just fresh fruit veg top up next week. I am also trying to use up freezer/fridge/cupboard stock. I am trying to reduce my grocery budget (currently £100 per week for me and 4 kids - 21, 20,10 amd 8) so here goes:

Mon 4th: slow cooked lamb casserole (lamb from freezer)
Tues 5th: Pasta carbonarra (well sort of low fat version)
Wed: Fish finger butties for 2 kids salmon (from freezer) with stir fry veg and noodles for rest of us
Thurs 7th: slow cooker Sausage casserole with jacket potato
Fri 8th: Chicken supreme with rice
    Sat 9th: Chicken fajittas
Sun 10th: Port fillet (in freezer) with peppercorn suace (got several paket of this no idea why as never used it before!) mash and cabbage
Mon 11th: Shepperds pie with veg from freezer
Tues 12th: Potato rosti with bacon eggs suasage and beans
Wed 13th: Leftovers - freezer tea - DD3 out for tea DD1 and 2 and DS will have a variety of feftovers from freezer I will have a ready meal that is in freezer
Thurs 14th: Valantines day - might do something special but not sure what!!!
Friday 15th: home made pizza - not done this for ages will need to find a recipe for base!
Sat 16th: treat night - fish and chips maybe! (naughty I know but normally have take away 1 night at weekend followed by movies/games/tv on my weekends with kids (ex has them 2 weekends in 4) - cutting down takeways to 1 night in month rather than 1 night a week!
Sunday 17th: Roast chicken dinner (although day before DD2's Birthday so might invite mum for dinner and do something a bit more special)

Breakfasts: cereal (got a few boxes to finish off) toast, fruit.
Lunches: got some home made soup in freezer for me, packed lunch for DD3, school dinners for DS and other girls see to themselves (cuppa soups, beans, pasta salads etc)
Snacks: got some biscuits but trying to be healthy so fruit and yogurts mostly

Shopping lists done - now just have to get off couch and go and do the shopiing - really hate food shopping with a passion!

On a different note - anyone got any good ideas for cheese? Got lots of leftover cheese in fridge (brie, cheshire, wensleydale, fetta, halumi!) and not sure how to turn it into meals - any inspiration would be good

    Thanks

We had an "eat-up what's in" tea tonight which was planned for. Taken the sausages out of the freezer for toad in the hole tomorrow. I decided to go shopping today instead of tomorrow. Wrote my list and stuck to it except for a chocolate orange. They were half price so as I had planned on a big bake this afternoon, I made chocolate buns with chocolate on the top and a segment of chocolate orange. Keep the children happy as I'm not buying cakes or biscuits.

  • Meal planning is what I really need to do and what I really really struggle with, probably out of laziness. You lot really are an inspiration though so I am off to do a stock take of the freezer and cupboards as I have minimal money this week.
