I'm not sure the OP is an armed police officer, which might just spoil using that as an excuse.

Not sure the OP had any weapon at all so what was your point?

If there were no insurance at all, the MIB would compensate an injured party. An injured person would be compensated in exactly the same way as if there were proper insurance cover in place.

    Hi,

My understanding is that MIB only pay out for injuries, not damage. I'm happy to be proved wrong.

I further understand that if MIB pay-out, I, and everybody else, will have to contribute to their losses through next years premiums.

And if its my car that the uninsured driver hits, I have to pay for my damage myself.

As in my younger days, driving without insurance should be 12 months disqualification. Driving while disqualified should mean 6 months in jail. None of my teenage friends drove without insurance, the penalties were too high.

On the other hand, as a 17 year old, with a provisional licence, driving a three-wheeled "sports" car (BSA Scout), my insurance cost me £8-10 -0d, and that was from the Prudential .... less than half my Dad's weekly pay, but twice mine.

Likewise I didnt think OP was an armed officer.

My point is (as was described clear enough in my previous post) that the OP broke the law in driving a vehicle with no insurance. Maybe OP is an armed officer, who may struggle to claim they were on duty and driving to a crime scene at that time. I have my doubts bout that.

Its more likely, OP broke the law by driving a vehicle with no insurance. That there is no "get out clause" available to the OP in relation to the offence committed, no matter how "safely" the offence was committed.

Your post wasn't specific at all, you said that because the driver chose to drive uninsured then they should also be done for one of the careless driving offences - you don't mention any separate factors which are genuine reasons for potential careless driving offences

    Really?

Here is my earlier post, unedited and in full.
Do you really need evidence that someone who believes that driving without valid insurance is a competent enough person to be behind the wheel?
Surely someones state of mind is also a factor in their competency.

The majority of responders on this thread are of the opinion that the OP did wrong (ie, was below the standard that they believe acceptable), so this should satisy your requirement for "some evidence that her driving was far below the standard expected of a competent driver"

Please feel free to show where I said anything like the quote shown above in bold that you attributed to me.
I stated that IMO the OP was not competent to drive because of their belief that driving without insurance was an acceptable thing to do and at no point did I state anything about them "being done" for any careless driving offence.

What an amusing thread. It's interesting that "driving without insurance" is now the new single most heinous crime that anyone could possibly commit from behind the wheel. The government insurance scam & brainwashing is clearly working well.

If you remove the "what if" from most of the posts here, the end result is she simply "didn't". Therefore the insurance was wholly unnecessary. Had she done "x","y" or even "z" then yes there may be consequences, but in this case there were none.

Your post reached "mostly" deaf ears.

The same carp is still being posted

MIB will pay for damage & injury but that wouldn't apply in the OPs case as because her mother had insurance on the car that policy would pay as required by RTA

  • hi. I am a polish so hope you will understand my post.
On the beginning on Feb this year I asked my cousin ( just came to ireland so he lived with me) to drop me,my kids and husband to home after small party. I have no driving licence and my husband was after few beers. My cousin wasn't added to our car's insurance because we did not know that he has to. In Poland you can use insured car if you r not this car owner so its different. just after 5 meters garda stooped us. We told true that we r after party,I have no DL and husband drunk some beers and my my cousin is not insured for this car. Garda check my cousin that he is drunk or not ( he wasnt), informed him that he cant drive etc. We explained that we did not know and it was first time. The policeman said that my cousin cant drive because of insurance, my husband because alcohol so he got a car keys and he dropped me and kids to my home by our car and cousin and husband walked to home. the policeman explain me rules here and told me that better for us will be if we add cousin to our insurance because if happen the same next time the case will be in court.policeman was very nice and did not tell us about fined, just cousin got notice and make sure that he understand now rules ( cousin said him that he didnt know but now know and understand all and policeman noted what he said). was a little funny because in the car policeman apologized me but he has to stopped us etc. today my cousin got a letter that the case will be in court on July.
Can you let me know that he can lost his (polish) driving licence? I am worry about it because he works as truck driver and he has almost all categories of his licence. I expect some fined and I pay for that becouse I feel so quilty. thank for all answers
