What a great idea. Interestingly US citizens seem to do debt diaries like these much more often and share them online through a blog format. I think that the US mentally is actually more open about talking about debt than we are in the UK. Personally I'd suggest that if you feel comfortable why not create a debt diary blog under an alias and post regularly as well as sharing your ideas here in the MSE forums. You might even be able to earn a little extra income from your blog to help you pay down your mortgage quicker! All the very very best for the future - look forward to seeing some diary entries over the coming weeks

Hey DFG, I never realised my diary was so interesting, I just thought I would write to myself I suppose. If you use any of what I write then please spare me a kind thought :A.
Well things are on the up tonight I must say, what a pleasure.Karma - the consequences of ones acts."It's OK to falter otherwise how will you know what success feels like?"1 debt v 100 days £20000 -
Good luck!
I'm a fellow OU student too, although I had a lot of my courses funded due to low income. I'm on my 5th module now - just one more to go, starting in October 2013!0 -
Fantastic amr, I wish I only had 1 more course to do
. I'm looking at finishing my degree by the end of 2015 and have you seen the cost of the courses now, we've been very fortunate. Karma - the consequences of ones acts."It's OK to falter otherwise how will you know what success feels like?"1 debt v 100 days £20000 -
Oo, oo, oo diary I forgot to tell you something I've started doing everyday, how did I forget, I am such a silly girl.
Every single day, except Sunday, I check my online bank account and each time I move the odd pence over to my savings account so that could be 99p or 1p or any other amount in between.
I cannot believe I didn't share that with you before

What an excellent morning - no work :rotfl:
Just got back from Morrisons, I went to get the Quorn which is on offer and I can make some chilli in the slow cooker, I could eat chilli all the time as I love it.
I spent some time looking at food flasks last night and the one in Asda for a tenner has some good reviews as does the Thermos caf! one in Argos for £15. I'll see how much money I've saved by the end of January unless my dear husband buys me one for my birthday.
I don't like things like flowers and chocolates, I like practical, useful items like a new set of crockery. I could have said pans and I nearly did but since I tend to burn most things I cook then it would be a bit of a waste
Food is safe with me as long as it is either being cooked in the oven or cooked in the slow cooker, otherwise I cook by the smoke alarm, if that just gives a couple of beeps then the food might be salvageable but if the alarm is going manic then the food will be cinders.
Whilst on the subject of the slow cooker, they are a valuable money saving tool as they only use the amount of electricity that it would take to power a light bulb so cheapy-cheap.
OK checking out for the minute, have a super Saturday :jKarma - the consequences of ones acts."It's OK to falter otherwise how will you know what success feels like?"1 debt v 100 days £20000 -
I've just thrown all the ingredients into my slow cooker for my chilli.
It must have cost me £2.20 and I will get 4 portions out of it so 55p add a bread roll 8p so = 63p.
I also just inadvertently found out that should I ever break the glass lid of by beloved sc the middle sized pan lid will fit perfectly. I put the pan lid on instead of the glass one - see I said I can't cook.
Great stuff!Karma - the consequences of ones acts."It's OK to falter otherwise how will you know what success feels like?"1 debt v 100 days £20000 -
I've got a little food flask yay :j
It's large enough to hold one can of soup or what have you so thought I would try this before buying something larger (to make sure I will use it). It won't go to waste if I upgrade anyway.
I've got 4 tubs of chilli cooling on the side, when it's cold I will put some in the fridge and some in the freezer. I need to see if I have more tubs somewhere I thought I could make more chilli tomorrow and capitalise on the weekend.
Yes another tip if batch cooking, or any other types of cooking for that matter, please make sure you only put food or liquids into the fridge once they have cooled. If things are still hot or even warm when you put them in the fridge you are risking breaking the thermostat on your appliance which will not be cost effective!
Well after that little public information announcement I shall have a shufty around

i know some people on OS decant food into a freezer bag and then place into a tub to freeze. Food freezes in the shape of the tub (and is therefore stackable in the freezer) but they can take the tub away and reuse it, rather than needing a large stock of tubs.know thyselfNid wy'n gofyn bywyd moethus...0
