i'd be looking at additional security measures, just in case! know what you mean though, i did not feel safe after the bikes were stolen. we have a gate all padlocked up and stuff now but im still not too great!

There's a fat chance of that - both gates to our drive are broken, and it would be asking too much to expect my landlord to fix them. I think we've been waiting over a year for a new carbon monoxide alarm, so can expect a burglar alarm by the 12th of Never. (sorry, don't mean to rant, but my landlord is a sore spot right now!)

    Congrats Spag Bol!

Minicooper - i sort've share your pain. We were woken up Friday night/Saturday morning to several large bangs. As they werent coming from our house, we just thought it was strange but weren't overly worried. OH looked out the windows and all was calm in our garden and in the street.

Saturday morning - OH informs me there's glass where we park our cars (we live in a newbuild where the parking is about 30ft from the house and is shared with 5 neighbours). The next door neighbours car has had the windscreen put through, the lights and the wing mirror on 1 side. Not good. The only reason it seems the other wing mirror wasnt damaged is because OHs car was parked next to him and "protected" that side. OHs and my car are totally unscathed.

The neighbour has recently broken up with his girlfriend so i think its to do with that. It calms me a little that we aren't the targets, but still really scary! The neighbour is actually moving out this weekend, i was originally sorry to see him go but now i cant wait!

You should then be able to send him the bill, or pay less for rent -to that amount, for that month with a copy of the reciept.
I'm hoping I've not missed something here... I'm trying to update the spreadsheet, and have noticed that your goal was £1600 so congratulations for hitting it! Are you wanting to increase that to £2000? Or do you want me to add you to the roll of honour?

Sorry if I'm a little slow on the uptake here!

Roll of honour please? I will be back in 2014 with a slightly higher amount to clear off the credit card and small amount still left to pay dad. But actually reaching this amount is a great wee boost and motivating me to continue!

watched something really depressing last night from money weekly, they are predicting increases in interest rates from 2015, claim that Britain is already bankrupt. I've seen it forcast that interest rates will increase, dates given have been from 2016 to 2020. When ever it starts, its going to get horrible :(
I don't have much savings so that side wont affect me, but the interest rates on mortgages will cripple me. Really need to get a move on with my increased payments each month.

    Hi there everyone

Am a frequent lurker, read my emails every morning with your motivating posts, just don't have the time to post often. I'm doing so much better than I was this time last year, it wouldn't have been possible without MSE.

I started the year on about £16k of debt which now currently stands at £9k. Not only this but I've had some big things happen, I've had to deal with a burglary (now insured), starting a full-time degree on a secondment with work, move in with my other-half and lose entitlement to tax credits (yay). All these things happened and I still managed to clear £7k.

The remaining amount is spread over 3 debts, the car, a bad loan and CC2. I'm not sure if I will get everything paid off by next xmas, my aim is to clear cc2 and the bad loan. Our home is rented and will be going on the market in August so if we can't buy it we will have to move to another rental :(.

    UPDATE
    #142 £7k paid
    (over challenge period)

Looking forward to starting the next challenge. Congrats to the new and pending arrivals.

I posted this on the grab a bargain thread, but will put it here too in case anyone's shopping today:

Tesco frozen bbq stuff being sold off in the end freezer:

    pork rib racks (2 in pack) @ £1.25 a pack - I got 2 of those
bbq flavour chicken drumsticks (5 in pack) @ 50p - I got 3 of those
    turkey steaks with lemon + pepper (4 in pack) @ 50p - I got 3 of those.

So I've got at least 17 meal portions for £5.50 -not bad :) (and if feeding smaller children that would be 35 portions). :T
    Debt Free 🍾 since 6.8.13 £31,997
    Saving for 🎄 🎁 2025 £460/£800 57%
    6 mth 🆘 fund £6k
    Mortgage offset fund £24.7k/£40.3k 61.3%
It turns out the answer to my problems wasn’t at the bottom of this tub of ice-cream, 🍨 but the important thing is that I tried...

I've decided I'm aiming to pay off my car debt by April. It's doable... I'm going to sideline two other debts (interest free), pying off student fees first. :)
