Right, so I've so far sold bras on fleabay, shouted at my OH when he uses too much loo roll, bought 96 loo rolls once in L1dl because they were on offer...and tried the no shampoo hair regime (I failed that one although I only use a cleansing shampoo now which is much cheaper and wash my hair every 3-4 days)....are you all ready for my latest craze.....

Since Sunday evening I have stopped using toothpaste. I've been trying to cut down on the amount of artificial chemicals we use in this house anyway. But when I was having heart palpitations on Sunday and couldn't sleep I suddenly thought to myself "why have I never questioned it?" So I started looking on the internet and it turns out the glycerin in our toothpaste forms a layer on your teeth that stops the teeth remineralizing (repairing the enamel). The flouride in our toothpaste is overkill as we have it in our drinking supply. It also turns out that brushing along with flossing is pretty much all you need. So I've been using just water for 3 days, my really terrible bleeding gums (sorry TMI but it's gotten really bad whilst pregnant) have all but gone and my teeth are dentist clean. I'm amazed. I've just gone to the health shop and bought a bar of pure olive oil soap (meant to help with bacteria) and on Sundays I'm going to use some baking powder on my brush for whitening. I shall report back on my craziness :D but so far so good

Ooooooh Kerry I tried the not washing my hair thing with shampoo, I just washed with water, I went 15days and had to stop cuz I was going to a wedding and my hair was awful. I read on a blog it takes 10days but my auntie said she thought it was 6 weeks before your hair became self cleansing. So maybe I will try again when I go travelling :)

And incidentally you can buy things called 'toothy tabs' from L*sh which are bicarb of soda toothpaste which will give you a nice clean feeling and they don't contain fluoride. I too worry about the high levels that we expose ourselves too, there should be enough in the tapwater for the teeth. Better for ur growing babba too I am sure :)

    Happy new house AMR.

Suzitiger, I'm tempted to try the hair thing again when I'm on mat leave.

Day 6 of no toothpaste, gums no longer bleeding :) sugar isn't sticking to my teeth as much when I eat chocolate :) happy kerri

I've started to use a pure olive oil (Castile) soap, but at parents today so just water. The soap helps with bacteria, but you have to swish your mouth with water after. Doesn't give a yucky soap taste though, even the cats licked the soap little weirdos. Will brush with baking soda tomorrow night, once a week, for whitening. Not looking forward to taste of that but shall report back on it.

interesting :D i hate toothpaste actually, the only one i actually like is by Oral B.

OH and I have decided we will put the bare minimum away (£350pm) until after Christmas so we won't hit our target :( but we have moved house and it should be cheaper to run. :D our council tax bill is half the price til march as we asked to delay a months payment while we moved, we overpay every month though so we've endedu p with a fair bit of credit.

handed back keys to the house! the chap was pleased said it was fine. but landlord is coming over to assess it tomorrow so he could well dock us for something stupid. the chap from the agency said the water tank was 'disgraceful' so at least we're not exaggerating!

i also had a review at work today, i'm getting a payrise :D
