Huge congratulations to Helenpie on your amazing achievement!

amr if I were in your shoes, I would take the £300 left in your current account and put it towards a new deposit, as it's "spare cash" that was was never intended for your house fund in the first place. Then next month you can do the same! I'm completely alien to this concept of admin fees, as I've never had anything of the sort on anywhere I've lived so far. While my landlord isn't the worst, and only asked for a £150 deposit, I think it's unlikely she will give me my deposit back when I move out though, as it would constitute a bit too much work for her.

thats a nice way of looking at it :D im going to do that!

i dont think we'll get our deposit back, theres a bit of damage but theyll probably say its 600 quids worth
Is your deposit in a tenancy deposit scheme? When did you take out the tenancy if not?
"This applies to deposits paid for assured shorthold tenancies that started, or were renewed, on or after 6 April 2007." - from shelters website.

If it's not protected you can take him to court to get the full amount back. There are loads of clauses to prevent landlords taking the entire deposit from you now.

i imagine it will be protected because we went through an estate agent they do at least try to do that side of things right! shame they cant give the LL a kick up the backside. he has had a lot of tenants by the looks of it and i can see why!!!

we would need well over £1.2k to move which includes the fees, deposit and rent plus the cost of removal vans etc. its just a nightmare. we are thinking of renewing for 6 months more then hopefully we'll have cash to get out by then.

just got to think happy thoughts, focus on the positives - i've got nice neighbours!

    Big thanks everyone :T

I'm going to hang around to keep me on the straight and narrow but probably won't be saving much until much later in the year as we have a lot of home improvements to do now that the debts are gone. I will have to save before I go on maternity leave and for the first six months so that I can try and save enough to live off of and take up to a year off of work. :)

Kerri: when do you think you are due if you think scans are wrong? I'm 15th Jan (my birthday :p) until they tell me otherwise at my scan. It seems they get it wrong a lot though....

I worked out the conception was around the 2nd week of April, but they dated it as 2 weeks before then... OH was really stressed with uni around then and we were arguing a lot so there were weeks between any naughties... they might be right though... but I think I'm probably around the same time as you. 12th-15th Jan.

Congratulations :D That's a huge amount to have paid off :)

Woke up by OH this morning telling me he's got a first for his degree and has been awarded computer project of the year for his dissertation. So proud of him, not that I thought he'd get anything less. He's worked super hard and deserves the credit :) Makes the stress of the past few months worth it.
