I just wanted to say thanks to all the regulars on this thread. I am a bit of a lurker but wanted to tell you that you have inspired me to tackle my debts. I have got my money situation under control for the first time ever I think. I know what goes out when and have been tidying up and paying off my debts. I am down to 2 credit cards and have just made a payment to bring the one I am trying to get rid of first and the balance has gone under £1000 woo hoo:T
I can see the light at the end of the tunnel and feel very in control of it all.
    Thanks to all of you.
Ps working out the percentages of what I have paid off is a really great motivator for me.

No mini-cooper. I was clicking onto the next page and somehow clicked :spam: !!
    In debt no more!
  • I am going to go back and read what I have missed as I have been away for a few days, but first of all I need to have a totally selfish post:

    OH MY WORD!

The selling is going great, fb selling pages truly rock! We have had a massive declutter over last week and this week, and if all sales comes through this weekend, we have made a HUGE £278 towards our debt:T:beer::j:D

To say I am over the moon is totally underestimating how I feel!

I am so surprised at how well it has gone! We are just as pleased about the fact we have got rid of LOADS of wedding stuff as well as the extra money towards our debts! Also, I have been extremely lucky so far in that we have got what we paid for everything wedding-y, as I know most brides have to sell at a massive loss. Soooo happy!!!

  • First of all, welcome to all the new people who have joined this group. Good luck to you all, you will find lots of support here.

KerriDFW - Good luck with the bike ride, I am sure you will be brilliant :D I can't wait to hear how you get on with making your dresses, let us know! I am addicted to the Great British sewing bee, and have the bug to start crafting myself! I love the butterflies fabric.

amr - sorry to hear you have been feeling a bit flat. I know how you feel re: thinking you will never get out of "dump" and buy somewhere, I have moments of this too. It is a horrible feeling, but have faith you WILL do it xx Wow, you really have had a rollercoaster of a day, but glad things have ultimately worked out in the end xx Oh, and OH and I don't often fall out over money, but we have had the odd niggle/snipe at each other a few times. Money is the number one thing couples argue about apparently, so you are not alone :D

Kerfuffle - well done, you are getting so close now!!!

Minicooper/amr - you make a good case for going on rightmove etc, to keep track of the market, what your budget will buy you, if prices are rising or falling etc. It is just pure torture at the same time! Though it is spurring me on to nail this debt as soon as possible!

Bedsit bob - well done on being in to 3 figures, good times!

Sueb - welcome, you will get heaps of support here

chocqueen - well done on clearing 2 of your debts, funny you should mention chickenpox, as my little bridesmaid has just come down with them yesterday, typically on first day due back at school after the holiday, her mum was gutted!

Minicooper - sorry to hear of potential layoffs, I hope it doesn't affect your plan to apply for jobs further down the line, will keep everything crossed for you

Marmitegirl - well done on tackling your debt, feels good doesn't it?

Just paid £46 off my Argos card. Bit of a random amount but 3 payments of £46 will clear my card before the interest gets added on!

So checking in for the week:

How do people deal with the interest on their credit cards when it comes to this? Because I've just paid £18.16 off my credit card but that was just most of my interest for the month being paid off, so how do I calculate that into my total?! Or do I just ignore it?

    Hi

I use what's the cost and that takes into account interest (as far as i can tell) so I update here with what I have paid and my debt amount and debt free date is what it says on there.

Hmmm, not sure that makes sense!!

Huh? Nope I'm confused by that I'm afraid.

Interest, I pay the interest and ignore it, then I reduce my amount owed by what I pay on top of paying the interest.
So if my interest is £10 and I pay £20 I reduce my amount owed by £10. Make sense?

I am spending my day in bed with the lappy on my lap today, my bum hurts, my legs hurt and I'm sure I have wind burn on my nose!
We reached the junction of the A303 & A360 at half past 6, realised we were lost and so pushed on to Salisbury arriving just in time for our train, phew! We had head on winds the entire time we were riding, so a lovely 6 hour ride took us the best part of 10 hours and we didn't see any of stonehenge either as the signing wasn't very good :(

We raised over £600 so far, which is amazing and well worth the saddle sore :)

Debt wise, I've been without my CC for over 3 weeks now and after speaking with the OH have decided not to use it anymore. Instead I will pay down as much as possible each month. I'm still paying off my OD in £50 increments on the 20th of each month, but if I'm sensible and buy less chocolate I can clear this down quicker. I really want to get rid of this debt now and as far as I can see if I keep using the CC each month it'll never happen. So no more takeaways, and no more living like we have loads of money because we don't and we don't own our own house, and it'd be nice to do that before the time comes that we want babies.

P.S. have just realised I should have showered before going to bed last night whoops, poor OH :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
