  • Hi I would like to join this challenge please if you will have me! I feel like we (OH and myself) had a good year last year financially and we did make good progress eg switching mortgage from interest only to repayment and making retirement provision. we also spent a fair bit on holidays and decorating although did both much more frugally then we have before! so i feel like the time is right to finally kick the debt to the curb! the only debt remaining is virgin credit card which is currently £8115.23. but unfortunately i have used my credit card last month and so i'm not sure how much is to pay off there - whoops. so 2012 was good but i want 2013 to be even better! :jthanks x

Hello and welcome :) How often do you babysit? It's something I reckon I could enjoy, I could spend the time surfing the net on MSE! :rotfl:

Very glad to be on board! I babysit a couple of times a week, only for regular families now so I know the children and where I'm going. I use Sitters - They text you with any jobs, you text back if you want to accept. If you don't like the family you don't have to go back. Families will start to request you so you get first dibs on their bookings. It's been a lifesaver over the last year - easy money and they always have sky which I can't afford at home!

  • Apart from my usual payment of £470 between two cards, I've paid off an extra £64 so far in PAD and quidco . I'm going to try to give myself a challenge every month to help me push beyond the usual payments. This month I will get my Amex card below £3000, which is quite achievable. I'm also going to try to pay 5% (or £513.15) minimum off my debt every month (after interest!). This means that I have to find an extra £150 this month.

  • Emptied my tiramundi pot this morning, and have £70.95. Will pay that towards my debt this month, but I'll give myself £70 back when the debts are cleared as my tiramundi pot was for a holiday fund:
    £3041/3486 = 87.2%
    £445 to go!
  • Wow I'm seriously impressed with everybody's sealed pot savings - mine normally gets up to about £12 then I desperately need bus fare so it gets can opener-ed! :p

We've got a Spongebob tin at the moment which MUST have more change than we've ever collected before - we only put £1/£2 coins in it and I put £9 in the other day so am hoping it stays sealed long enough to get full!! :D

Did my shopping list for next week last night - actually sat in the kitchen and checked what we already had, worked out when I'd need to eat around my stupid shifts at work and was very organised - it's due to arrive tomorrow afternoon so I'm hoping it actually does all turn up - then I've got a week of healthy food for £40 for both of us which I don't think is *too* bad, but as this is my last week of doing night shifts and things, I think the week after this we can make a special trip down to Aldi and see what we can get from there for the next week of food :)
