  • Gosh this is hard going! I hate feeling completely broke by only the ninth day. I've made further payments of £375 today and that is £75 more than last month as a result of scrimping through January. Just one more payment to make but waiting for the statement to arrive.

Because I'm ignoring the fact that I have an overdraft facility and c.cards and I've banned myself from using either, I have only my ebay sales to survive on now until the 28th. 8 items end tomorrow, they're all on 99p still but up to 12 watchers so hoping for a good result - the suspense is killing me!

I've got a Morris..n's. Miles voucher £5 so at least I know I could get basics. I don't know, I think I must have a self persecution complex to be making it this hard. Anyway new total is:

    no: 74 £875 / £7860

    Onwards and upwards everybody! :D
    Debt Free 🍾 since 6.8.13 £31,997
    Saving for 🎄 🎁 2025 £608/£730 83%
    6 mth 🆘 fund £6k
    Mortgage offset fund £24.7k/£37.5k 65.8%
It turns out the answer to my problems wasn’t at the bottom of this tub of ice-cream, 🍨 but the important thing is that I tried...

Thanks everyone, I feel like things are actually starting to go my way and I feel a lot more optimistic than I have done for a while :D. I'm aiming to have paid off nearly £1900 (30%ish) by mid March (well if all goes to plan). However, I have to be really careful as last year I did so well in the first three months and then it went all pete tong!

Woooooooooooooo! Yes I forgot to say THANKS to the forums too for inspiring me to do mine :)
It has made me feel more optimistic too, it means I can finally clear some of the payments that make me feel so downtrodden.
Last year same happened to me, I am being a bit more careful this year too :p

    Hmm...5 years?

    1. Be completely financially stable and debt free :j
    2. I'm expecting identical twin boys in a few months and i guess they will be in school by then! So maybe start thinking about another baby in 4/5 years time?

    3. Definitely have moved into a bigger house with a bigger garden for the boys to play in :j This is a priority really!

    4. Have figured out what career path i want to take as i wont be working for a couple of years now (childcare for twins too expensive) so i've got plenty of time to retrain, update my qualifications etc for when i start working again when the boys start nursery/school.

    5. Go on a big adventure!

    6. Just live a simple life and be happy with no worries, etc.

Yes yes YES Lovely goals, especially number 6, this is how I live now and how I wish to live the rest of my life. I enjoy the simple life. :o

Yaaay, and how lovely to be 35 with a 17yr old, you yummy mummy you :p

I hope to be completely debt free except for a mortage. So in the next 5 years I want to have bought a house, maybe had one kid, and definitely have a pet a dog :D
Of couse my buns will still be with us - I hope!

That's some amazing goals, I am where you will be in 5yrs but I have debt and no mortgage, no children and no pets! :(
I would love all of these things. I am engaged tho which is nice, excited to marry my lovely OH and then we will work on the other goals.

In 5 years time I will be 33. I hope I will have nearly doubled my salary from where I am now; as I recently qualified in my area that is possible.

I hope to be debt free, overpaying the mortgage enough to clear it in half the mortgage term, and have a comfortable cushion of savings to deal with life's emergencies. Otherwise I plan on being exactly where I am, but a bit more comfortable and with the odd holiday and little luxury.
You are pretty much the same age as me, and it is nice to know that our goals are all fairly similar. :D
In 5 years I'd like to be:

Debt-free, married to OH, relocated to Scotland nearer his family with at least 1 kiddywink, and a mortgage we can comfortably afford, working 50% in my current job and thinking about my future career path/training once the kiddywinks are at school.

    Nothing too specific then ;)

I don't think thats too specific, I think those are lovely goals :)
first of all, WOW :T, how amazing are we all paying off SO much debt in January! We officially rock!

As for my 5 year plan, it goes something like this:

    1. If we decide to have children (we aren't getting any younger at 34 and 41, but at the same time I want to enjoy a few years of married life first!) then for us to have one little one running (or crawling!) around by then.

    2. To be debt free and leading a life free from the worry and constant knowledge in the back of our minds that our wages are not our own at all.

    3. To have bought our "forever" home together, and to be overpaying our mortgage every year, we would love to be ambitious in paying off our mortgage a lot earlier than the term we take out.

    4. To just be living a good and happy life, to still be a strong couple (we are such a strong team) and enjoying each other's company as much as we do now (I see so many unhappy marriages around me where you can see the spark has gone).

    5. To be building up a nice "buffer zone" savings pot should anything bite us on the bum like redundancy, cars packing up etc etc. This kind of links to not leading a life ruled by financial worries.

    5. To be having one amazing holiday every year.

    6. To have started my own business, whatever that may be. I don't necessarily want to earn enough from that to be able to give up my job, but just something that is for my soul that I enjoy and makes me happy (heaven knows my every day job makes me miserable!!!)

Once again fabulous goals, and I HIGHLY recommend starting your own business. It's hard work but it is worth it to do something that you love :j

Yaaaaaay welcome back starnac, don't worry, the same happened to me last year, I am further in debt but in a 'better' way if that makes sense, most of it is now interest free so I guess that is a bit better. But you are not alone in ur wagon falling :D Good to see you back
    I'm still sitting at 0 paid :o
I'm only sitting at £70...waiting for PPI and wages to come in to get a bit more done :D Nowt wrong with that psychobabbble, at least we are here :rotfl:

So, after managing to get a new CC from Barclaycard with a 0% rate for 24 months, and a transfer fee of 2.1% (promotional at the time), and combined with paying myself at a different time of the month (I'm a contractor) I've managed to not only clear 3 debts, but also get all my remaining debt at 0% - The first time I've not been paying interest in about 4 years!!!

My monthly debt outgoings are now around £210 per month with no interest paid, compared to around £400 a month and £180 interest paid this time last year!! Happy days!

    So now ...

    #28 £4410/£15850 27.8% paid off!!!

That's fab news, its SUCH a good feeling isn't it :)

    That's amazing fritterprincess, well done!

Thanks suzitiger!! I have worked out that I get paid in 13 days time, and because I have lots of overtime money due and haven't touched the credit card I'll be able to pay off the rest of my overdraft (last £1000) so I will at last be DEBT FREE!!!! So excited!!
Have already decided my first treat will be a new Hoover!! Then it will be head down and start saving money for my husbands next car, and for our garage conversion and new kitchen.
I have been left some money from my grandparents who passed away last year which will pay for a huge chunk, but never again will I get in debt for anything. I want to have all the money and a considerable contingency fund saved to pay for it upfront. (Even if it means having to continue nailing and sticking my drawer fronts on for a bit longer as my current kitchen falls apart around me!
I haven't been on here much for ages, but everyone is doing so well. I have had some health problems and have been rather overwhelmed with everything. Luckily the docs have diagnosed what is wrong and I've started meds to sort it out.
Has anyone heard from Jemma recently? Hope she is ok.
Keep up the hard work and I'll check back in when the overdraft has been paid! Xxx

Soooooooooooooo...I am back! I have made another £35 payment so far this month but I have GOOD NEWS! :j
I received a tax rebate of £287, and a letter from Bcard saying that my PPI claim has been successful and I am now due £628!!
    :j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j
I have had to pay some bills that would have usually gone on the ccard so I guess that is good, even though I hate to see that £300 disappearing...but the debt is not increasing so..PHEW!
Not sure how long it will take to get my £600 but at least I know its on its way, so so happy!
So this means that I can pay off my C1 card that i have had since I was 19 (I am 27 now!) and my 2nd bcard too, both debts I would LOVE to have gone and means I will be £50 richer each month :D
Well....£50 to snowball towards other debts really :p
I am trying to catch up today so here goes...

Awwwww how lovely, i couldn't think of a better thing to spend your money on :D I would love to see a pic of them, have I missed it?

Woooohooooo SpagBol, that is really great!

Good to see you! And thanks for the condolences :)

  • Happy Sunday threadies :D

I've not managed to stash any more money yet but haven't spent over budget either - which for mid-way through the month is kind of a miracle for me! :rotfl:

Start my new job tomorrow and am getting veeeeeeeeeeeeery nervous - partly because of the snow that is forecast, it won't go down very well if I can't even get there on my first day will it?! :o

ebay auctions finishing this afternoon - I only managed to list 3 items (why is it soooooo boring?!) one of them is on of my "spare" wedding dresses, which is at £51 with 48 watchers so I would be very happy to get £100 for it but we shall see :D If nothing else it clears out some space in my bedroom so that will be much appreciated anyway!

Right need to get dressed and go into town - I want to look for a magazine, some tights and maybe treat myself to a few bits from Debenhams as I got spoilt with £100 worth of gift cards from my old work buddies :A

What's everybody else up to today?
