In that situation I leave the "dear or To" bit blank & just sign the card "With best wishes from, Jane, Bill & Carl at number 42",
They then send you one in the same vein & then you will know.
Good idea but read their card carefully - I'd had two cards from our neighbours before I realised that what I'd read as 'Tom' was actually 'Tony'Junior_J: I love love love your festive do. I am awed by how you keep a sense of humour & positivity during all this illness.
I second this.............go JJ!
Can I add a plug for the two 'Mrs Miracle' films, I adore them and they're so Christmassy. They both tend to be on a bit in the run up to Christmas although I've recorded them too so I can watch them when I'm not watching the Gavin and Stacy Christmas Special.It's the most wonderful timeof the year :0 -

Good Afternoon
Freespirit I'm ok.thanks for asking.
I have finally realised today why I get fed up at Christmas. Lack of storage. The house always looks a mess. Our old house was Victorian with massive cupboards and a 20ft kitchen.
I have just got in from doing the weekly shop and all the Christmas bits I have bought are in a box on the cooker. There is just nowhere to put them. I dream of having cupboards and putting things away.
That is why I bought the lounge furniture. Lots of little cupboards.
Only they are all full. Books, DVDs, dog food, family tree photos, Robbie's clothes, etc etc.
I have rearranged my working week today. So I now have Tuesdays off. It means working longer hours the other days but it will be worth it. I will actually get Christmas Eve off work. That only ever use to happen if it fell on a weekend.
I may see about going to the next town on that day. Just to watch people panic buy. :rotfl:
I used to love Christmas Eve when the kids were little. All the excitement then putting them to bed and looking at their gifts under the tree, while drinking a baileys or 2.
It's not the same now they are older. So maybe a trip out will bring back some of the excitement.
Hope everyone is well or at least feeling better than they were.0 -
Just got my final Talk Talk Bill and have had to ring them to get a refund as I was in credit by a whopping 60 pence. :rotfl:
How :money: am I'm ? :rotfl:0 -
Just popping in to say a quick hello to everyone. Hope you are all ok. Last weekend took the kiddoes to the Christmas fair at a local museum and they both loved it so much (esp the rides - tantrum when I had to eventually take them off) and the Christmas decorations. So I feel that I may need to get a tree for the house after all. If I do I will post a picture on here. Off to catch a train now so catch up later.0

I need help! I get small presents for my friends children with a budget of approx £6-7. Two of the three are sorted. The other one I have been told is into her french so french magazines would be brilliant so that she can practice reading it etc in the colloquial way (not just how you're taught). Problem is I am finding it hard to find where to buy these from.. any ideas?? The child in question is female and 15/16 years old...0

Thank you all so much for your kind comments about my Christmas pics
Looking forward to seeing more of yours :xmassmile
Got some cards & a parcel in the post this morning for family & friends that we won't be seeing until the new year.
Just waiting for pay day now to finish buying the few presents left that are needed (which is no where near as much as I had to do this time last year, thanks to this thread :T )
Need to make a start on the pots of gold & the scrap book for nanny this week.
I learned this morning that I have 4 days off over Christmas, not having to go back until the Saturday:T so can start thinking about what I want to get baked.
* a chocolate log
* a gingerbread house
* mince pies
* & a ham joint slow cooked in apple juice then roasted off in a sugar & honey dressing .... at least I think that's what you do?! Any tips or suggestions would be great X

Got nearly all my wrapping done at the weekend. I just need to buy two bows because I ran out, wrap one thing when and if it arrives, and wrap the present that is cheese because I thought if I did it too far in advance the paper might get a bit damp and spoilt in the fridge. Hope the cheese is actually ok still and hasn't gone off or any such terrible thing!
I have bought some fancy cheese for a pressie for a friend today and on the way back I was discussing with DH, how/when we were going to wrap it. Decided to keep it in our fridge and wrap in the cellophane wrap/ribbon and tag etc on xmas eve. I got two different ones - one is with garlic and the other is with highland liquor. They are encased in wax and in the shape of a piece of fruit.
Bought some xmas cushion covers today in Poundworld today. :j
Got some red baubles to go in a dish. Sainsbugs had decs on for half price so I got some bits and bobs to hang on some twigs I'm going to get tomorrow from Mums garden. Might put these on the hearth. Oh DH's pressie has arrived (shush don't tell him).
On the subject of names on cards - we received one the other name and they used a totally different name for me. :eek:
Take care everyone

Do you think it's ok to write to 'bob' and family if you don't know other peoples names?
I want to give some Xmas cards to some of my neighbours - I haven't lived here that long and know my next door neighbour quite well and will stop and talk to her if we run into each other outside but I don't know her husband very well, only enough to say hi too. I know they have a daughter but she has a hard to remember but very nice name. So is & family ok or would you be offended that your neighbour didn't know your husband and daughters name?
Its fine, i have to do that sometimes or like someone said earlier just sign who its from with your house numberMkgirl1981 - I think it's fine to write "To Bob and family"
Freespirit - frog eaten? Rather like that phrase but I've never heard it before, what does it mean? I'm assuming you haven't actually eaten a frog...
Oh haha its from the flylady thread its when you do a job that you really dont want to do and keep putting off, but feel much better when you have done itOwn_My_Own wrote: »Good Afternoon
