  • Ruth_honey excellent film suggestion. Miracle on 34th street. I prefer the newest version myself.

I've decided you lot are a bad influence. Was killing time in asda this eve whilst dd was at brownies and by the time I got to the till found various xmas chocs had magically appeared in the trolley also with a pack of Nescafe Gingerbread lattes! Perhaps one of your naughty elves has paid me a visit.:snow_laug

Am now drinking latte and shock horror I don't like it! Should have got caramel ones :rotfl:

    Happy Holidays - Andy Williams
God rest yr merry gentlemen - Annie Lennox
Rocking round the Christmas tree- ( the late but loved) Mel and Kim
Little Saint Nick - the Beach Boys
It's cold outside-Tom Jones and Cerys Mattews
Ring out solstice bells - Jethro Tull
Zat You Santa Claus- Louis Armstrong
Come all ye faithful (adeste Fidelis) Bing Crosby
    Jingle Bell Rock- Bobby Helms

Oh, how could I have missed Rockin around the Christmas tree??? And Baby, it's cold outside. When I can get the stupid pc to work, I'll get my Christmas playlist from there and have another look at what else I have. I know there's a nice album by Lady Antebellum that is all winter/Christmas songs. I hope no-one is offended by this but there's a very funny song called 'Grandma got run over by a reindeer' that got played a lot when I was younger and it always makes me giggle.

Apologies for quoting my own post, but this was quite spooky. I had come to bed, put my iPod on the dock to charge and switched it on to play music whilst I got sorted. I have 10474 songs on my iPod (yes, I know!) and it's on random everything. So the next track played was 'On this winters night' from the Lady Antebellum album that I just mentioned!!! How weird is that???

Has anyone tried mr Kiplings 'winter whirls' yet? Like a viennese whirl with buttercream and a mince pie flavour filling. Saw them in tesco and they sound nice.

ALJA Foodie hampers are a good idea, perfect for sharing with partners and children and tend to go down really well! I always do a home made kind of mini foodie hamper for my friends, biscuits, chocolate truffles (chocolate, orange and baileys) and a little bottle of home made wine. They've already started requesting the same again this year lol.

Oh that sounds lovely! I was thinking they probably would be best as I can grab what's on offer over the next few weeks to keep the costs down. I should really look into all this homemade stuff one year though :)

Freespirit, it must be really disheartening for your poor DS but he's getting good feedback and I'm sure it will all come right for him soon. Unfortunately some companies have someone in mind for their vacancy but their HR policy is that they have to advertise and so even if the external candidate does really well they still don't get it. I know it's to make it 'fair' but in reality it doesn't.:(

Aah thankyou PEPPAPIG i know it will work out in the end, but its getting him to see this.

Evening everyone, it's been lovely reading your plans.

I don't make any homemade presents, but would love to if it meant me saving money. I've never really properly "made" something for anyone. Maybe one year! :)

Well, the Christmas present buying for friends situation has now changed. I spoke to a couple of my friends the other evening and found out who they are buying for and who they're not. So now my "to buy for" list is shorter, which is lovely.

However, I felt my friends were planning to make a little more effort this year than maybe I possibly was (e.g. buying something for friends and also their other half), so now I'm completely overhauling my ideas.

I don't want to spend the earth on the presents, so I'm thinking of doing little foodie hampers for each friend that they and their other half/baby can enjoy too where applicable.

Maybe a bottle of something easy to drink and affordable like bucks fizz? A bar of winter wonderland chocolate...some hot chocolate sachets, maybe some nice biccies/chocolates etc?

I shall have to get planning, without a plan I feel hampers can easily end up more expensive than planned! :) <--- haha! Reading this back sounds funny! I believe the word of the evening from me and possibly my task for the week is to "plan" this!
Friends hampers sound lovely. We do a Secret Santa nowadays as our close friends have married / got long term partners. Gives us an excuse for a get together with mulled wine and nibbles too. Usually Christmas Eve, afternoon now as there are children these days. We have to guess who bought our gift. And unlike the rest of the Christmas gift buying, the men really get into it. Top secret and some very funny ideas. It has cut down the spending and there is more time to put thought into the gift you have to buy. For friends children, age 4, 2 and 1 I put together some pjs, a book, perhaps a little toy etc. Don't spend loads as its just a token. The other couples do something similar for kids including mine too. So everyone's happy ;)

Gift guides- can't remember who asked but I have the Next one as of yesterdsy and the Tesco one too. Going to try and avoid Boots for a change.
2016 MFW OPd £2000, 2015 MFW OPd 3000 then bought new bigger house with bigger mortgage.
    MFW OPd 2014 £2000 2013 £9700 2012 £2848.39 2011 £2509.58 2010 £11000 2009 £112002008 £4939 :D

  • Bad Santa is definitely a good film choice - I treated myself to that today lol. Something of a dishy Santa for a change...

In Bruges is also set at Christmas. Though that is one of my favourite films in general.

ALJA the food hampers for your friends a great idea, I think food always goes down well and you can put something in for everyone. QUOTE]

Indeed! I think that will definitely be my plan now :) just got to think how much I want to spend on each one and how many things to put in it. Hoping to make them look more expensive than they are!
