Hello!
I've had some very good news today - I have been given a new job which I'm really excited about, and I'll be earning a bit more money too which will start coming through just in time for the remainder of my Christmas shopping! However, I need a little advice from you lovely wise ladies - my current job is in an office where there are just four of us including my boss, though I am actually a freelance worker. I have been told time and time again that my role is essential and they don't know what they'd do if I leave... and now that's exactly what I'll be doing! I don't want to leave them in the lurch so I want to suggest continuing working on a freelance basis part-time until they can replace me, but I know that whatever I say my boss will hit the roof. While he likes the work I do, we have never really clicked personalitywise and I have a feeling he'll get very angry with me. I hate conflict, so I'm not quite sure how to break the news, and it's taking the edge off my excitement a bit as right now I'm filled with dread at the prospect of that conversation! Any advice would be gratefully appreciated
On a more festive note, I'm off into town tomorrow! I asked my brother what he'd like for Christmas from me today and he suggested a model brain. He's a Psychology student, but really?! A model brain?! Don't suppose any of you have seen one of those in the shops have you? :P
Congratulations on the job !
Ah model brain... not so sure I've ever seen one of those... but what I would suggest is a phrenology head they range from £5 -£20, loads on ebay! I had a hard job resisting buying one I saw in an antique shop a few weeks ago it was beautiful !
Phrenology was a really popular Victorian science, they thought the measurements and bumps on the human head to be linked with personality and characteristics. They were hugely incorrect on most of what they said but its a major theory in the history of psychology and neurology. They were right that the brain had localised areas which controlled specific functions which is what we look for today with MRI scans!
Awesomely cool and they make great ornaments!..... and I'm honestly not weird see the signaturelol.
xI hope you know your capable, & brave, & significant.
even when it feels like your not....0 -

Evening, off to read back a bit. I had a Nescaf! gingerbread latte today, it was ouch, I just sat sniffing it for ages with my eyes closed, it smelled like Christmas.
I have done all my chrismas shopping in my head. I just need money now to go and buy it all. X
I saw the gingerbread latte advertised in the c0-op magazine this evening and wondered if I would like it! I may have to try it soon
Picked up a box of roses in the c0-op this evening as the standard size boxes are down to £2, so grabbed a box for my Christmas party as there will only be a couple of us and there will definitely be other treats too!
Tomorrow I am going Christmas shopping...and this time I will definitely go! No more "I can't be bothered-ness!"called up M+S this evening and they said they have their pressies out, which is fab!
I hope you all enjoy the rest of your evening and have a lovely day tomorrow. Shall hopefully catch up on everything again tomorrow evening x0 -
Kaya congratulations on job offer
To your employer, ask for a chat, offer to make a tea or coffee.
Say something positive e.g. you value experience gained or support given ... then say that you've been offered a new job that offers you greater financial security... an offer you couldn't refuse .... but you are willing and able to help out on a part time basis as long as they need you / until a date you have in mind.
The "s*** sandwich" start and end positive so bad news does not result in a confrontational response. If after all that your manager reacts unkindly you should just smile and tell yourself how lucky you are that you have an exit ticket2016 MFW OPd £2000, 2015 MFW OPd 3000 then bought new bigger house with bigger mortgage.Beautiful boys born May 2011 and October 2013

Congratulations! These moments in our working lives can be quite awkward can't they!? I also hate conflict and will avoid it wherever possible, but all you can really do is think in a few months time that moment of "eek" will seem like nothing. You have to think of number 1 really and I think what you're proposing (the part-time freelance working) really shows you're professional
Well, that's what I think anyways! Hope it goes well x0 -
Model brain - I love this thread it's so random.:D
I've just caught an advert for tins of chocs from Morrison, tins of Quality st, Roses, Celebrations and Heroes. Any 2 for £7 (they are £5 each). This weekend only, ends Sunday. Maximum 6 per customer.
Unsure if I'll bother. I'm diabetic, hubby and kids will just pig them. My parents work in jobs where they get loads of chocs given at xmas (hairdresser and special needs school bus driver) and others either live alone (widowed grandmothers) or wouldn't be interested.
Don't know if it's previously been posted. Have only read last page, been at work f-time, daughter been on a residential and she insisted on going to her beloved drama class though you could see how tired she was, so it's been full-on here.0 -

Thank you! I think I'll attempt this and just hope he doesn't hit the roofI'm hoping he can find someone to replace me fairly quickly, but I'm really worrying about it! I know it probably seems silly but I'm a sensitive little soul and I feel like I'll be letting everyone down

Thank you very much! Everyone has told me the same, that I need to think of myself in this situation, but it's not something I'm used to so it seems a lot worse than I'm sure it will be! I didn't want to leave them in a difficult position so I thought offering this interim buffer period of part-time work might keep them ticking over until they can find my replacementCongratulations on the job !

Thank you!
Funnily enough he asked for a phrenology head for his last birthdayIt's taken pride of place on his windowsill and it currently wearing one of those funny metal head massager things!
I'm just wondering if there are any other psychology-related things I could get him now...0 -

Fantastic, thank you! I spotted a couple on a few educational resource websites but I'd rather buy from somewhere like Amazon so this is greatHe dissected a few brains yesterday and seemed to love it... I'd be on the floor if I had to do it but I think I can deal with a fake one in the house

Kaya Well done on the new job :j
Well I went up to the loft and couldn't find the bears. I bet I didn't buy them. I remember picking them up and carrying them about, but I could have put them back. I can't remember.
I have just ordered a new calendar to frame. It's a 2010 Jack Daniels one. Because it is old I got it for £3.96 including postage. It is mainly grey and black in colour. Oh the excitement :rotfl:
I do love the bright ones I have up now, but they are more summer than winter. Goodness knows what Robbie will think of them, he stares at the ones up now. Mind you it may stop him trying to climb up to get them.0 -
