Hi all, I am a newbie who has been lurking for the past couple of months. I hope I can join in and bring some useful tit bits to the thread. I'm in money saving mode for everything now as I have just given up my job and dh and I are running our own business so pennies are tight.
I'm making hampers for christmas pressies this year and have found easyfloristsupplies.co.uk for cheap baskets wrapping etc, so if your making hampers it could be worth a look.
Thanks for all the great posts so far they are great inspiration0 -
 I bl00dy hate eBay
Just bought a folding table for £10 bin with £12.50 p&p to discover after paying the seller wanted it collected.
So I message her saying I have paid postage. Reply ' sorry didn't mean to put p&p. the cheapest I can send it is £15. Do you want Cary on or withdrawn your bid.'
So I message back that I will send her the £2.50. Reply ' can't do anything until midweek. I will see what the actual cost is. I hope it isn't more than £15 '
 I can now see me getting a message saying they want another £10.
May be brave and pop on the eBay board and find out where I stand.0 -

eBay update.
Went the eBay board and posted what had happened.
Got a couple of replies saying don't pay any more money, and open a case if they don't send it for the agreed amount.
I got an eBay message saying they had found a cheaper courier and could send it for the agreed p&p.
I wonder if they are members on here, read my thread and thought ' Oh that's about me ' :rotfl:
ETA thanks fatblackandwhite. I am so glad it is sorted. I hate opening cases against other ebayers.0 -
Right there with you on the hatred for ebay, OMO, the number of times I have been messed about there...it's easier to drag myself to a carboot to get rid and charity shop to buy. I do hope you don't have to add any more money to the pot.Gettingtherequickly wrote: »If you get a travel card, take a trip out to Crystal Palace Park and have a look at the dinosaurs, they are listed. There is also a farm which the littlies should be able to get up close and personal with.
There are the usual museums, but girls may be a bit too young, although they may enjoy the science museum as it is interactive.
Covent Garden has street entertainers.
Hyde Park has the Peter Pan section, U 4's are free on the boating lake, adults £12 each per hour or £10 for 30 mins, guess which is the MSE bit!
What about taking a wander down some of the markets?bargainfinder1992 wrote: »And we went to london, look out for two for one tickets at the train station in booklets, not free entry but saves quite abit of money
Thank you for these tips, really helpful!0 -

Grrr so annoyed at some posters on the forum! I asked if anyone would like to donate a home made gift to my raffle for graduation day and all I've got back is awful posts! I was only asking...I didn't expect much
Read your post on other thread. Some of the replies totally unecessary! Just wanted to say have you tried local tesco/asda if you have them near? Im on school pta and we do a quick letter on school headed paper both have donated to us. The other thing we do is ask mums at the school who run businesses ie cupcakes, beauty therapies etc if they would donate a voucher of some sort. Whats the worst that can happen, they can only say no. Hope this helps xx:)0 -
Evening everyone,
My DD1 is very MSE, she got two codes for Papa Johns Pizza, so for dinner last night and tonight we have had a medium pizza between us for 99p each night (usually 13.49) plus no cooking in this heat just salad to go with it :money: then on the way back we passed two supermarkets, she just ran in to see what yellow sticker food there was and came out with a bit of meat for the freezer, although some woman snatched one pack of meat out of her hand, the SA and others were appalled told DD1 to follow her around and take it out of trolley when she wasnt looking but DD1 said if she is that desperate she can keep it, it was 10p!!! The woman was twice my DD1s age  it was a good job i was in car with the dog.
FEISTY how did your craft fair go?
OMO i agree i hate ebay and try to avoid it

Some people are just too rude! I find that people like this generally don't need the item - it's more about the intimidation and self entitled attitudeYou have obviously taught your daughter well with regards to being MSE
I ended up doing the craft fair on my own (found out the hard way it takes 90 minutes to set up solo!) and after forgetting my key pieces (FIL ran them down to me) I was not off to a good start. I had a few various niggles - vendors next door to me decided to put up a giant pink gazebo even though I had asked about gazebo and was told as we were in the barn it wasn't recommended - needless to say it was the first thing everyone saw and pretty much headed straight to them, I got missed out a lot.
By 2pm I had made the grand total of £2.50 and after the stress and strain I was feeling a bit sorry for myself, really inadequate and about to call it a day - I then seemed to have a mini flurry of sales and it spurred me onto staying. I made £34 for the day, but only had to pay 10% for my pitch so it wasn't so bad. I also met one of my repeat customers there and she ordered another £32.50 of items that eveningI had a lot of people take my business card and inquire about family trees or wedding gifts so fingers crossed it will lead to some more sales.
Infact I was so buoyed by my mini success that I have teamed up with my local council and am heading up a craft exhibition in the town  This is a pretty big deal for me, so really hoping it goes well and becomes a success! I also have a business meeting on Thursday about securing premises to sell my items and hold workshops. Oh and I'm also sharing space with another seller in an antique, craft warehouse thing in the next few weeks - will be on a permanent basis.
I am determined to make this a successful business![/COLOR]2024 Challenges
