FEISTY thankyou, i told DD2 tonight and she was really pleased, think she feels a bit more confident now
NANAMIA/OMO hope you are both ok
Well i did get out into garden, and have started the big clear up! I wish i was a keen/natural gardener, my mum is and my nan was, but i just find it tedious, we have a quite a big garden but where my ex never ever finished things he has left me with a bl**dy mess, i am trying to not look at the whole picture and just do a bit at a time without spending any moneyhope everyone had a good day!

I'm like that. Both my mum & grandma enjoy/ed gardening and although I can appreciate a nice garden, I have no interest whatsoever in doing anything to my own. I'm not even that keen on sitting out there as it means slapping on the sun cream(I burn so easily!), so I sit inside with the door open. My mum did some work in our garden when she visited a couple of weeks ago. I held the bag open as she trimmed things and cut down the stupid buddlea thing that's taking over the place. It just seems like a lot of work for nothing. As for flowers-I can't even keep a cactus alive, so if the crocuses & daffs appear out front every spring, it's a miracle! :rotfl: (my mum planted those too, btw...:o)Cross Stitch Cafe Monthly Challenge Member #27

good morning, and it is quite nice here, not bright sunshine but not cold. Free spirit and Ruth Honey, I was the product of a gardener, my dad could and did grow anything, his design was fantastic and his energy huge, as a result I used to feel that my efforts were a bit/lot puny and second rate,...... until I overheard him telling two of his friends that he wished he had my 'feel' for the garden, that my plant knowledge was excellent and my eye for detail was 'bl@@dy perfect', Then he went on to say that he always felt a bit on trial when I asked him for advice on my garden, so maybe you are just feeling a bit overshadowed, as I did, for no reason.
Now, I love my garden, and feel so close to my dad there.
Nevertheless, we are all different, and if gardening isn't you lots of other skills are.
Bank holiday weekend, no plans, just weekly Skype with my babies and maybe a bit of retail therapy (cheap sort)0 -
Freespirit - that cake is out of this world - amazing! I did drool a little bit.
jakesbakescakes - well done on the weight loss
feisty - congratulations on the recognition of your art - they are just beautiful and you must be really proud that a magazine will hopefully be featured them so promeniently (fingers crossed) as I love those sort of pages in a mag - when I could afford them
A tiny bit of xmas prep - 2 horrid henry Christmas theme books in poundworld and in home and bargain I've just brought some pretty notepads - as they will make great stocking fillers.
Praying for a bit of warmth as well as sunshine today - sorry to be greedy but I really want to go out without a coat on!
I caught up with a friend who had been to Lapland last year and she showed me the photos. She said it was around £400 for the day but to be honest as it was so cold she was glad it was the day and not staying any longer and said it was amazing with husky rides, reindeer rides, and of course father Christmas - oh to have a spare £1200 for a day eh! It did look and sound out of this world.
Stay well everyone - can't believe we are in month 5 already!0 -
Evening everyone, had a nice roast round my sisters tonight, i love spending time with my nephew and neice, they make me die laughing the things they come out with, poor old mum gets the brunt of it :rotfl:
RUTH_HONEY that did make me laugh, i actually quite like buddleia haha, yes i know what you mean, you work hard and then you get weeds its ongoing, im a twice a year gardener the beginning and end of summer a good tidy up, luckily i havent got any grass to mow, its all decking and slabs and well mess
MRSINVISIBLE oh that is lovely, you must have felt so proud of your dad talking about you like that, see i would love to be like you, but i am hopeless, i cant even remember plant names, hope you had a good skype
MOJOWORKING thankyou about the cake, if you ever do get the chance to go to lapland do, we took the kids when they were young just for the day (christmas day) we woke them up and said santa hadnt been able to deliver their stockings but had sent for us to go to his house, we all got dressed and while they got in the car i put their stockings on their beds, we flew, and had the most magical day hunting for santa, we were lucky the day we went was only -6 they said the week before had been -20, the only regret i have was our camera froze up because of the cold and we never got any photos, but we still remember everything so clearly, we went ice fishing, husky riding, snowmobile riding, then santa told them their stockings had been delivered after all, so when we got home the kids ran upstairs and there they were on their beds.#103 1p Saving Challenge Back to Front 293.94/665.95Currently Reading: Christmas at Cedarwood Lodge - Rebecca Raisin Debt Free thanks to MSE0 -

Hello all, beautiful day this morning!
Freespirit yes that is what my decoration looks like! Although yours seems to have a few more sparkly bits on, i'll upload a pic of mine when I take one. Can't wait to put it on the tree! :T And fabulous cake by the way.
We were out in the garden yesterday for the first time - we've never had a garden before and this is all ours! However i'm very similar to some of you, I like nice gardens and I want ours to look pretty, however I am struggling with enthusiasm to get out and do it. Luckily my OH had lots of enthusiasm and was out there for hours so hopefully it will continue!I do on the other hand have a lot of enthusiasm for growing fruit and veg as I love to cook and love the idea of having fresh produce from the garden. I planted some asparagus tips in a grow bag yesterday (this will be a labour of love as it takes two years to get crops!), I potted a pinkberry bush (like blueberries but pink, I think they're called pink lemonade) and I bought some windowsill carrots. My MiL also brought me over a basil plant and chive plant. I can't plant anything in the groud yet as we've got a lot of work to do before that, the people before us put black plastic sheeting over the soil and covered it with woodchips so we want to get all of that up first and our ground seems quite hard so will have to get digging.
So sorry, I seemed to have waffled on about gardening!0 -

It's lovely isn't it? Really brightens the spirits.
Well I didn't realise it was going to be so nice today, I had a day planned in the kitchen, doing a bit of batch cooking. Although our kitchen is south facing so gets lots of sun and I can have the patio doors open to the garden. What are your plans?0
