I have a love hate relationship with my car - love driving, hate the associated costs! So feel your pain!

I think most places have froze council tax, ours have, maybe worth a look on their website.

Ours is frozen, but I get help with it, as I get CTC and WTC.
With the changes to council tax support, I don't know what help I will still be entitled to.
What ever it is I will pay it. I would just like to know in advance what it will be.

On a more positive note, I think we have finally sorted the prom dress.
We live in a small town and dd didn't want to get one from here as everyone else would have seen it. The shops do have a policy where you give your school name and they make sure no two girls buy the same dress, but as we have 3 schools, it doesn't mean that one of her friends from a different school wouldn't have it.

And some of the prices parents are paying is just unbelievable. One of her friends has a dress that cost £500. That's before shoes etc. Another has a dress that is £430.

Well, I can't afford that, so we have had a challenge. Dd picked a dress she knew she couldn't have, and we had to find one similar for a fraction of the price, and I think we have done it.

This is the dress she wanted

And this is the dress she is getting

I have just got to sew hundreds of beads and sequins on it.
  • Looks lovely OMO. I'm sure your DD will look fantastic in it. It might be easier to glue the glitters on?
  • Nanamia-Still no uniform, hopefully it will have turned up by Monday! Luckily I found another polo shirt (I think he has actually been wearing his old one lol and Id just thought Id shrunk it a bit!) and the pair of trousers Id thought had long been lost so he will have a uniform of sorts to wear on Monday! Luckily he wore his school shoes to the disco or they'd have gone walkies too! He did look great as Clark Kent though. :) Bless your friend, glad it went well and you were there to hold her hand. xx

FeistyFidget-So sorry to hear of your family troubles, they all sound very greedy tbh. :( And all the rest of you want to do is make sure your nan is comfortable. I hope it works well in the end. xx

    Trendyjenny-Have a lovely time. xxx

Princesskitty-This thread is a bit of everything, we are always here. :) xxx

PinkSteps-Trendyjennys idea of carrying on old traditions is lovely also how about things that remind you of your Dad. Did he drink a certain whisky for example that you could all have a toast of or a favourite pudding that you could have after Christmas dinner. Hope DS' tests go well. xxx

hismissus-The movie night gift bag sounds great, I love movie night gift baskets/bags, you can adapt them for anyone! x

OMO-Dont you hate it when all the big car expenses come at once! Our tax is due at the end of March, a few days before we go on holiday, great timing! Then when we get back it needs a service, new exhaust and other things I cant remember. (I tend to zone out when OH lists it all. :rotfl:) Im a bit panicky about our MOT now as a few years ago I thought our MOT was due in a different month than it was and we ended up driving around without an MOT for several months. (unintentionally!) :o

freespirit-Well done to your DD volunteering, hope she has a lovely birthday. xxx

George @ Asda has a great sale on at the moment, I bought a few gorgeous baby outfits for 1st birthday presents. Also ordered a few Dr Who bargains from Amazon and a 13 inch remote control dalek for £9.99 from B&M for DS' birthday. We've been keeping an eye on it for ages hoping it would be reduced from £29.99 and it finally was. :j I think Ill go and make my Christmas 2013 list, I havent done it properly yet tut!

  • OMO-That dress is gorgeous, Im sure you'll do a great job customising it. The things we do lol, I cut out loads of black circles once to make a dalmation outfit for my DS then stuck them on with fabric glue The only black fabric I had in the house was some new socks so had to cut them from those and it took quite a while. :rotfl:

I would let him go. There will obviously be parents there.

I often couldn't go to parties when I was growing up, and hated going into school on the Monday, knowing everyone would be talking about it.

OMG. That's cutting it tight. I would still let him go. 9.30 isn't that late on a Saturday night.

ETA Is he climbing the walls waiting for your decision. I think I would have been. LOL
