Omo bless x it difficult concentrating when you not well x hope she feels better soon x

I think things like this just go to show how changing back to one exam at the end of 2 years study isn't a good idea.I know she can resit it, but at least it isn't all her marks. She would have been devastated if it had of been.

I heard on the news today they are now changing A-Levels to just one exam again. Luckily this isn't coming in until 2015. Dd will hopefully already be in uni by then.
The universities aren't happy about it as they use the AS grades for their entry criteria. When the new exams start they will have very little to go on.

That's my little moan over for today. Thanks for ready. :)

  • OMO poor thing, thats such a shame for her, I hope shes ok - sounds like shes year 11 like my DD? I wish they would stop messing about with the wretched exams too, my DS is year 8 so it would effect him if they make changes.

Our Clintons never seems to have the Yankee candles reduced when I look, think I must pick the wrong times! H of F Ive done well with a couple, I got WW votives half price and C'mas Cupcake jar half price, then the Pink Sands jar half price - my year is 2 halves with candles as well as life! summer scents/holidays and Christmas scents/Christmas! What did those who bought Kr!ngle candles think of them? I found the scent not as rich as Yankee and some of them seemed to smell the same, although to be fair a lot of Christmas type candles are similar and I only sampled the tea lights - I was super impressed with the Sainsburys Festive Spice and Christmas tree candles though, I picked some of them up 70% off ... I get through loads in December!

Re. getting rid of AS levels, I think it's a crazy idea - I took mine 9 years ago and COMPLETELY fluffed up my AS levels. Luckily this meant I and my teachers realised and I had the time to pull my grades back up - had I not taken them I bet I wouldn't have noticed just how much I'd slipped. Have they said what the reasoning is behind it? I only caught a bit of it on the radio this morning. I think they're better off spread out tbh!

The Government think that students aren't being taught properly. They think they are only being taught enough to pass a mini exam or module, then moving on. In the new way,(or very old way) because there is only one exam, that bit of the subject would have to be taught on and off all year, supposedly in more depth.

I am so glad is isn't going to affect dd. She really panics in exams. Her teachers have told me the only way they can calm her is by constantly telling her it is only a mini exam and doesn't matter. She then calms down and does really well.

I too was one who had to re-sit as levels. Sadly we had family problems during my a levels - I ended up sitting one exam without even reading the material :( if I hadn't managed to pull my socks up with as and coursework, my final results would have been ungraded! Really wish the government would stop tweaking things!

  • Thanks snugglebunny for highlighting the Yankee Candle sale and OMO for posting the link, I have just order two packs of the red berry and cedar tea lights! :D I'm very excited!

I bought the Winter Wonderland ones last year but I found them a tad sickly so i'm trying the red berries this year. I also only had one pack last year and that was not enough!!
  • Hello everyone, sorry I've not been keeping up with this thread, but hope to from now on! I've been picking bits and pieces up as see them in the sales, so I've started! Also I tried on the 27th Dec. to buy up things for next year but I found there was hardly anything! Did things go on sale on Christmas Eve or a few days before so I missed them?

Anyway the point of my post was to let you know (sorry if anybody else has spotted them!) that Poundland have packs of 20 disposable icing bags which are exactly the same as the cello cones I bought this year for my snowman soups. They are really good for filling with sweets too, tie with a ribbon and you have a posh looking inexpensive gift! The cheapest cello cones I found were £3.95 for 50 - I got 80 for that price at Poundland!
  • Wish they would just stick to one way to do these exams and stick to it! i swear it changes each options year. Its confusing my poor mind lol I remember there being a big hoohaa the year after i took my gcses which was mostly coursework based and they changed it to the more exams way. That was nearly 20 years ago though lol

Ty for that poppygirl. shall keep my eye out.. will come in handy to make some sweetie cones for bday parties instead of the bog standard party bag.

My dd4 is loving monsters inc atm, her first choice at quiet, cuddle time is to watch it.. I've dug out an old toy from when my other girls were little, a talking bounce and shake and wack mike Wazowski.... spent a good 30 mins looking for him online but its classed as rare in the usa and can't find any trace of him in the uk... he must be out there! and its at least triple the price i paid for him back in 2002. silly price!

msgigglewick, my DH favorite disney film is Monsters Inc (amusing considering he's such a gruff manly man ;)) Our eldest Chi is named Boo in honor of the film!

Just wanted to share that for the first time in about 4 years I have had the money to pay my car insurance in full for the year! This will cut down on my monthly outgoings and has worked out about £50 cheaper too! I have the lovely site to thank for my money saving antics ;)
