It's carp to you and me, but then we already have alarms, and we sound fairly middle-class, so it's clearly not aimed at people like us.

Pray tell, how do you judge that someone sounds middle class or not on a forum?:o

Using 'pray tell' is a dead giveaway. :)

I judge by their use of language, and by the topics they normally post about. I've seen Leif's posts before.

I may be totally wrong, but it's only a forum.

It shouldn't be news to anyone that people who make ads and educational videos bear the social class of their target audience very much in mind.

My point to Leif, that this seemed to be an ed vid aimed less at middle-class audiences, stands. I was also less than enthusiastic about the way it was done.

I didn't say anywhere that only working class people need education in this matter, which is why I wouldn't respond to the poster who seemed to imply that I did. :)

    Archaic, innit? :D
  • I have a 32 year old CF wall mounted CHB. I dont have a CO alarm and i'm not planning on buying one.

with a CF boiler you need a CO alarm more than most, it's not room sealed & if you have any probs CO could pour into the room
I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.

You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.

You cant make some see reason sthcstrgi :wall: thankfully most of my customers understand and appreciate advice given to them about co poisoning and buy an alarm.

Can you put a price on a life compared to £15 for an alarm ? no brainer innit ?
You may click thanks if you found my advice useful

Thats ok. CF boilers and indeed unflued appliances were around long before anyone even thought of CO alarms so they are no more dangerous now than they were then. My cooker in the same room doesnt even have a flue and my boiler is only about 12Kw input and gets my tender loving care :)

BTW..expect a welcome upsurge in business when Fizz cops some CO poisoning in Corrie in the next episode. No doubt there will be a rush of bored people sat at home with nothing else to do but decide they too are suffering from CO poisoning and therefore call the ESP to have their gas cut off .;)
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..
  • but you are so wrong, open flued boilers haven't been sold for donkeys yrs & with good reason, no your cooker doesn't have a flue due to it's output but it can still produce CO enough to kill you, if you aren't a RGI you shouldn't be touching your boiler, good i'm glad i hope everyone watches corrie it might open a few eyes, i'll repost a comment i made today on another forum about a CF boiler

  • just further to some of the comments, a customer thought they could smell gas so called out Transco (as was at the time) it turned out someone had put petrol down the drain & this is what she could smell, however while he was there he checked the CF boiler in the kitchen & turned it off due to lack of ventilation (they had a conservatory built) which is why i got the call, went into the roof, flue was apart with an 8" gap, asked the customer if anyone had any headaches etc, she said her daughter had been suffering for yrs been to the docs loads of times & her GP even put her on the pill cause he thought it might be hormones, when i told her it was prob CO she went through the roof as her OH had been "servicing" the boiler for yrs, he wasn't an RGI but a copper, they had just split up & she threathened to report him to the highest person she could, he ended up paying me for a new boiler in the A/C just to keep her quiet.
