The first reminded me of the fake public information vids we used to make at college in the early 70s, all on a shoestring. Mind you, we'd have killed for today's editing ability.

But it's good, and it makes the man of the house feel all hard and proactively responsible, buying one of these instead of peeing it up against the wall......Well, maybe.;)
And what about the little woman, eh? They should maybe bear in mind that many households don't actually have a blokey-bloke, or at least one they can rely on in any meaningful way.

Lemontart why have you not said what the link is about ?
Carbon Monoxide awareness or something like is all you need to have put, this does not only apply to gas is very non descript and to just put a web link in there with no description of what its about is daft to say the least is it not ?
I remember you posting recently in the Gas board with a vague thread and weblinks and getting slammed for that so why do the same again ??You may click thanks if you found my advice useful0 -
While there should be awareness of CO poisoning, I think the advert is playing the 'fear' card too much suggesting you could be killed fromsomeone else's house or flat. Sure, I expect you could, but what are the actual number of deaths pa from a souce of co which isn't your own? They say it's 50 deaths pa overall, but I'd say almost all are from an enemy within, and not external. The cost of advertising like this is I should imagine some people in flats surrounded by many other dflats are probably on the way to being paranoid.
If people think the ad is in proportion to the risk, then what the hell type of advert shopuld we have warning people about walking in the street, which you stand 8 times the chance of being hit and killed by something on the road than by co poisoning? (let alone co poisoning from a neighbour). Or simply going for a drive, you are 16 times more likely to be killed. When you take a step onto some form of steps, then you're 13 times more likely to fall and kill yourself than from co - not much public warning or understanding of that one I bet.
I'm all for informing people of the risk, but it should be consistent and not drive people into paranoia. Getting a co monitor is one thing - but I bet a fair proportion of the one's sold up to today now have flat batteries anyhow. (yes, I know they warn when the battery is going flat, but I expect many pull the battery out and, although intend to replace it later, don't.)0 -
A far better site is www.covictim.org there is a lot of info on there, including a downloads page which has infor for homeowners - landlords and students.
List of symptoms - what to look for if you think your heating might be unsafe - list of contacts for different agencies etc etcYou may click thanks if you found my advice useful0 -
Yes, you should explain what the video is so we don't have to watch the carp. I found the video annoying, too emotional and patronising. I have two battery CO alarms, they're not expensive. Oddly when I had a new boiler fitted, the alarm they fitted is smoke only, not CO.Warning: This forum may contain nuts.0

It's carp to you and me, but then we already have alarms, and we sound fairly middle-class, so it's clearly not aimed at people like us.0 -

PMSL, is it only the lower classes that can be killed by CO then ?, we should def replace all those boilers in the work houses before we have no kids left to crawl up the chimney :TI'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.
You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.0 -

You missed the point I made, that there is no need for thee and me to watch it, and yet the lack of any title meant I had to waste time watching it to find out it was not of interest to me. If only the OP had been more thoughtful.
Incidentally, I don't think ignorance of the dangers is class specific. And I'd say that a stove is quite a middle class must have accessory.Warning: This forum may contain nuts.0 -
Take my comments out of context if you must, but I'm not biting.southcoastrgi wrote: »PMSL, is it only the lower classes that can be killed by CO then ?, we should def replace all those boilers in the work houses before we have no kids left to crawl up the chimney :T
