I'm alone a Christmas!

I've made some really good French, Dutch and Belguim friends. It's just the English that have issues that I can't be bothered with.
You know you yourself could make friends with poeple in the UK who are lovely and not necessarily self obsessed neurotic Americans!!!:rotfl:
I just cannot tolerate my peers down here, is it the same with you eh?
Oh, I'd love to...but everyone I've met is wrapped up in their own lives (understandably!) and doesn't seem to have the time for new friends. Maybe it is my age (I'm in my mid 40s), or my shyness...don't know what it is. I really like the people I do know, and Brits as a whole, but it is hard to break into groups for friendships, I guess. I've also looked to the international community for friends, I am much more at home with them than my fellow countrypeople, but it seems to be either a much younger or much older crowd with the meetups - and they're inconvenient for me to go to on work nights. So partially my fault for not having friends here!
It is definitely the same for me - except I have difficulty with them most of the time back in the US, too!0 -
Is there an elderly neighbour who might very much enjoy your company? Xmas morning I am popping over with my two little boys to see a neighbour of mine, who lives alone, to enjoy a coffee and a mince pie and a good chat. It will do us all good and spreads a little festive cheer.
This Christmas it is just myself and my little boys. Initially I felt very odd about not being with my dad at xmas, the first time ever. He and my stepmum are spending Christmas with her daughter this year as it is her first year in her own home with a new baby. So totally understandable. My boys and I are all meeting up with my dad and stepmum on the 28th and spending a long weekend with them and doing Christmas then.
Whatever you decide to do I hope you will enjoy the festive season.
Yes! There are a lot of elders that would very much like my company, if you see what I mean!!
Believe me if there were any lonely, vulnerable elderly people here I would be the first to suggest spending time together. The elderly, vulnerable people here are the wives that tolerate their nasty, drunken, selfish husbands that are "players", just here for the ride. Many times they're is abuse and the poor women don't know what to do with themselves and although have money in their own right, often don't drive and are trapped in their relationships, far from what's familiar, friends and family.
I'm sure I'll have a good day - I feel better for getting things off my chest. The more I talk about it the more fortunate I feel.
Being alone will give me time to reflect on my life and at least should I want to change it, I won't have anyone to answer to, apart from the cat ( and he's a real bind at times).
I might clock in on Christmas Day, after I've been to mass!!0 -
Good luck with the season and give the cat an extra stroke Boots!
Cats are wonderful pets: I miss my last one very much after he died some 3 years ago now.
Funny thing with this time of year is I have multiple invites for evenings out around xmas and new years but If I wasn't going to my GFs I have a half hearted invite for xmas lunch (only: not the whole day!) from my dad.
To be fair most don't notice the pressure to be in the bosom of family or partner/both until they are single, although it's always worth bearing in mind it's only the lucky ones that are 100% happy all the time: the rest of the time they would envy you!
Frankly I have 101 little jobs I could do around the house (some weather dependant mind!) if I wasn't going to be away, so enjoy xmas with you and the one who loves you unreservedly: your cat.Unless specifically stated all posts by me are my own considered opinion.
If you don't like my opinion feel free to respond with your own.0 -
Im on my own this Christmas and am very happy with my decision. It's other people's attitudes that really get to me... the "oh poor you", "thats so sad", "don't you have anywhere else to go" so I have to justify myself to them.
Its similar to the "OMG... whats wrong with you... you're single and in your mid thirties..."
Hope you have a good day tomorrow and enjoy the tranquility.Man plans and God laughs...Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.0 -
It's just an extra Sunday !! Lots of people are not where they want to be [family] , I am a hairdresser i have had a week of people saying they don't want to do what they are doing .The grass is not always greener !!!!!!!!!!!0

I think being alone on Christmas Day can be difficult because people carry their childhood memories with them and everybody has expectations that it will still be a happy day with families when they become adults. It isn't always the case but that as somebody else has said, it is only one day in the year.
Could you try going to a church service, even if you are not a regular churchgoer? It may reduce your sense of isolation, and use up a little part of the morning, so less time alone.
Make yourself a nice meal, and if you've got some favourite music, play it and enjoy it.
And use time time to think ahead to 2013 and perhaps think about some positive things you might be able to do or new activities you might be able to take up to meet some new people.
Happy Christmas!0 -
Happy Christmas OPIt's better to regret something I did do than to regret something that I didn’t. :EasterBun0

Morning to all the other 'aloners' today.
I've opened my presents, gone for a walk on the beach (took warmed up croissants and travel mug of coffee with me) and am now home in clean pjs, waiting for something good on the tv to watch. I will have buffet food for lunch.
Hope you all have a good day, wherever you spend it

Merry Christmas to everyone, but especially to all the others on their own.
I hope you are having as nice a day as I am.

I am on my own today, was supposed to be on holiday over Xmas but had massive argument with other half so did not go, waht a waste of a lot of money.....I am now house sitting, have no xmas food here , hardly any clothes, had no presents to unwrap, but I am happy. I am feeling emotional and terrified of what the future holds but i have the tv to watch what I want, and I have hope.
