Vege soup, with loads of lentils, a bit of chicken anything that was in the leftovers box in the freezer.

I've just checked it, tastes lovely but could do with being a bit thicker
So i've put some rice on to boil, i'll throw that in once it's cooked,
Then leave it an hour to finish off.

I have some red lentils and leftover bacon, so was thinking of doing a soup in my slow cooker. I've never made anything apart from stew in it though:o so if anyone could point me in the direction of a recipe i'd be very grateful.

Carrots (or whatever veg you have!), onion, garlic, veg stock, chopped bacon, lentils, pinch of cayenne (or black pepper). Add more liquid/adjust seasoning later if necessary.
  • I've just thrown the chicken carcass in my SC together with a chopped onion, 2 chopped carrots, 4 chopped green tomatoes, about 10 sliced mushrooms, 2 tablespoons black lentils, 6 tablespoons red lentils, garlic, seasoning and enough water to cover Should be a decent chicken and veg soup ready when I get in from work in the morning.

Twqs chicken breasts in a Napolitana sauce and served with tagliatelle and pine kernels. Chicken is soooo good in the SC.
  • I've just started on my love affair with the slow cooker, but today I had turkey breasts, two tins of french onion soup, 1/4 cup soy sauce and 250g sour cream, cooked on low for 5-6 hours.

And it was pretty damn tasty!!!!

  • I've just thought of a question - I did a couple of SC casseroles last week, but the sauces came out a bit runny. I was wondering if I threw in a handful or two or couscous or bulgar wheat would it thicken it up a bit? And how long would it need to be in there for?

Or is there something else I can do that I haven't thought of?!

Sprinkle a couple heaped tablespoons flour/cornflour over the vegetables and mix it around a bit before adding liquid. It works for me.
