    Hi fedupandskint,
i cooked a whole chicken in my sc on sunday and it was lovely, i browned off the chicken in a fry pan first then put it in my sc on high for 1 hour then on low for 7 hours with a carrot, celery stick, onion and clove of garlic.

after 8 hours i attempted to take the chicken out but it fell apart, i scooped all the bones and skin out , once i removed all of the chicken i made the juices/stock into gravy .
i will def be doing this again next sunday
I cooked a whole chicken on Sunday as well. I didn't bother to brown it off first:o. I seemed to get a huge amount of meat off it compared to roasting in the oven. We had it as a "roast" on Sunday, stir fry on Monday and chicken pie Tuesday. So that was twelve meals plus stock from the bones (and there's still a piece of pie left).:j

hmm i have never tried a whole chicken in my slow cooker, namely because its just a little 3 quart one...I am thinking I might upgrade for christmas, but i do love it! We eat a lot of whole chickens really though, so it makes sense!

  • Mumslave I had great success with my chicken last week and I highly recommended it to my SC friend at work. She did hers in her 3.5L slow cooker and found it sat in its own juices but that wasn't a problem.

In my case I did it in the bigger of my two - the 6.5L one and it roasted and browned and only sat in 1cm of its own liquid at the most.

I am finding having two SCs very useful - the big one for stews and stuff with potatoes in and the smaller one for curries and bolognese.

sounds like a good plan cat addict, I dont think i could part with my beloved slow cooker, small though it may be! I may get a small chicken to squeeze into my slow cooker and give it a whirl! I am sure i have a garlic and parsley recipe somewhere :D

i have pork steaks (dipped in flour and paprika and browned then cut up) celery, garlic, red onion, leeks, apple, pork stock (from cubes) parsley and rosemary (didn't realise i was out of sage until half seven this morning!) and diced potatoes and a small chopped apple. Hoping that will cook into a tasty pork casserole! Also hoping any veg/stock leftovers can be blended with a little veg stock into soup.

Pheasant (skinned, and whole), on a bed of carrots, onions, bacon, red wine, herbs and garlic.

morning folks! I love this thread, so nice to read whats cooking in everyones house! I am being boring today and going for the good old braised bacon with onion and tomato in our slow cooker today, its my husbands absolute favourite. With homemade potato wedges that never taste quite as flavoursome as the shop bought...ah well. And broccoli.

I've never tried that. It doesn't sound boring! Whats your recipe?

I have beef stew in mine, too. I am cooking a big batch. One portion for tomorrow's dinner and one for the freezer.
