Poached salmon as per recipe here (Tescos 1/2 price bargain!). I've cooked this before and it was nice.

  • Hiya, I asked Mr Jeeves how to cook the gammon joint? and guess what? he directed me right back here onto this site showing me the bit about Gammons.

So...in the SC is the gammon, I soaked it in a bowl of water first for about an hour to get rid of some of the high salt content all gammons have.
1/2pt apple juice and 1/2pt water. 2 tsp of mixed herbs.
I am cooking on high for 4 hours.

Then I will let it get cold so I can try out the new food slicer I bought yesterdsay.;)
If winter comes, can spring be far behind?
    Spring begins on 21st March.
  • I have pork joint with apple and potatoes in the SC today - will transfer to the oven for half an hour when I return home to crisp up the fat!! :)

Hiya, I came back to say the gammon cooked realy well and I now have a dinner plate full of thinnly sliced ham in the fridge.
I sliced the ham with a cooksworth slicer from Argos. The slicer worked well, cleaning is a bit of a do but I used a plastic spatular and the milk brush on the fiddly bits. Yep the slicer and I are going to become good pals now I have seen the light! I also sliced up a tiger loaf.

Sometimes you can get spare parts (such as lids) from the manufacturer. A similar thing happened to me, but I ended up buying a new one, as my other was so old, and used to take ages to cook anything.

Thanks for thinking of me, Sublime! In fact julie_d's positive thinking inspired me to go find the documentation for the slow cooker, and it did have a telephone no. for their agent in France. Turns out they will send me a new lid for 12 Euro - that is worth doing, I think. True, the original slow cooker cost 19 Euro at the time in Aldi, but you never know when they will come around again, and otherwise these things are very expensive in France. So a new lid will be here soon, I hope!
