Hoping someone can give me some ideas, please! In my slow cooker today there are two punnets of plums I got cheap :) and five peaches, same. Wouldn't have lasted beyond today so I've mushed them up and stewed them on 'low' all day, with a bit of caster sugar slung in at the end as it was a bit sour. So now what I need to know is, what on earth can I do with stewed fruit?? I've had a look on here but can't find anything, can anybody please help? :)

Is it ok for a crumble? I've made one this afternoon with some plums that needed using, but I didn't stew them first.

Or maybe use it with rice pudding or porridge or mixed in with yogurt?

(btw, it's very liquidy, as I had though pies but even without adding any liquid it's far too watery!)

Could you thicken it with some cornflour water paste? Or strain it leaving the fruit for pies then reduced the juices left down to a syrup type sauce?

    Oh I do love you OS lot sometimes :) this is what I've just been and done;
(after spooning lots of it into my gob lol, GORGEOUS!)

    -strained the juice from the fruit and put the fruit in a bowl to use for crumble tomorrow;

-poured the juice into an ice cube tray so that I can put iced cubes of fruit juice into my hot porridge, thus cooling it down and making it all sweet and fruity, yum!

So, er, thanks :) that'll do nicely.
I have come here to chew bubblegum and kick @ss.... and I'm all out of bubblegum.

1st time in years Ive used our slow cooker but this morning in went some chicken breasts, carrots, mushrooms and onions and a chicken casserole packet mix..left all day..hubby and 6year old ds wolfed it down..even ds said it was gorgeous! It's only a 1-2 pot size one though so am now looking at getting a really big one. Im thinking it will be really useful when baby arrives.

    well i done it!!!

1st ever sc meal, beef casseroll, lovely, oh and dd loved it!
i think i cooked it too long, carrotts and onion soft (ok), brocclli mushy, but the beef was very tender (i dont usally eat beef, it's always tuff and chewy). told dd that it was chicken gone brown with the gravey ;).
followed with rubarb crumble and custard (done in oven).

    AND very little washing up:j

Well i've kinda 'rescued' my ruined curry! I couldn't bring myself to throw it away so made some pastry and did some pasties. They're quite nice, I think a smaller quantity of the curry isn't so bad, so I will probably freeze the rest of it and use it for more in the future.

(Sorry, not really slow cooker related :p)

was the marrow ok in the end? veg curry does sound nice!

I usually pre-soak barley first but I know others just put it straight in. Red lentils I always just thrown straight in but have never used green ones so can't help with those.

Good Luck with the soup :).

Just had a thought - you could bring the barley to the boil and simmer for a short while BEFORE putting into the Slow Cooker.

    Thanks Olliebeak,
I didnt use the pearl barley today but added the red and green lentils and i did just throw the lentils in at the beginning along with
    celery
    red onion
    half white onion
    sweet potato
    whole new potatoes (home grown)
    parsnips
    butternut squash
    left over cold chicken
(all of the above were past their best and at one time i wouldnt have used them)
    2 vege stock cubes
    1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon

The soup/stew was fab,:T and i was worried it wouldnt taste nice
even the children loved it and there is some left for lunch tomorrow

tomorrow i will try the lamb recipie in it navarin of lamb:D

The marrow kept it's shape quite well and absorbed the flavours (maybe that's where all the taste went? :p) I have put the rest in the freezer as sick of the sight of it and will start again tomorrow with the other half (going to try a marrow bake as someone posted on here).

Someone tell me that next time I see a HUGE marrow and think it's cool, I have to leave it in the shop!
