  • In my sc today is a half leg of lamb (Aldi £4.49) with a chopped red pepper, 4 carrots chopped small, a large chopped onion, 2 tablespoons of red lentils and one tablespoon of barley. I have added 2 teaspoons of French seasoning (Aldi - also do Italian, Chinese and Hungarian in quite big bags for 99p each), garlic and chilli grinder (B & M) and black pepper. I always add the salt, to taste, later when cooking pulses.

I will be doing jacket potatoes with it. One of my sons and girlfriend coming round for dinner tonight so will be more then enough for us all plus should get several one portion sized dinners for the freezer. I take these to work with me - just select a dinner from the freezer on my way out and it is usually nicely thawed by the time I need to eat.

Hello, I need some advice. I'm making soup using left over beef stew, stock, and a bag of dried pulses, but I forgot to preboil them, although I soaked overnight. I'm now worrying if its safe for my children to eat.

I have checked the complete slow cooker collection, and have googled, but there is a lot of contradicting info. Some say to soak and preboil for 10 mins, while others say thats just for kidney and soya beans.

Its a Sainsburys dried country soup mix which contains, dried peas, dried barley, dried lentils, and Aduki Beans.

Any help would be much appreciated.

I have used Mr T's soup mix without boiling first but not sure if it contained Aduki beans. The rest should be fine but maybe worth googling info on aduki beans. sorry not much help x

ETA - what does the pack say on it??

    Thanks for replying Elf.

The pack says to soak overnight and boil rapidly for 10 mins especially if adding to soups. The difference is I am cooking on high setting in my slow cooker for approximately 8 hours in the soup (rather than cooking and adding to soup later).

Aduki beans were what was worrying me. I have googled, but there are contradictions. Has anybody used them just soaked in their slow cooker before? Any advice is welcome.
