The pastry was cooked and had risen but looked a little damp - i put it in the oven and it crisped up and was perfect.

The recipie was from a slow cooker book and suggested pastry as a bowl lining also but I just did the lid to avoid excess calories.:A

Thanks, could you please post the recipe.
  • Hi everyone,
hope you don't mind me joining the thread .
I got a slow cooker about 20 years ago off my Nan but never really used it and in the end I threw away the electric part (sacrilege) and just kept the "crock pot" which I do use quite regularly in the oven (pasta bakes etc).On sunday I bought a new morphy richards slow cooker (1/2 price at Argos) as i have been hooked to your posts and decided to give it another try.
Yesterday I made Hungarian goulash it was absolutely delish - the meat just fell apart in your mouth and today have made carribean chicken which I am just about to serve up.
Does anyone have a recipe for pork with cider ?

I have a recipe for pork sausages with cider so I dare say you could use pork instead. I have to say I have never tried it but plan to later this week. I can post it if you like just let me know.........

  • What do you think: would I be mad to buy a 6.5 litre as well as my charity shop mini-size and cheapo argos medium size? I thought the argos one was really big when I bought it, but although I can fit a good size stew in there, it won't take turkey drumsticks or a whole chicken.

    Ok here goes

    SLOW-COOKED SAUSAGES IN CIDER

    2 tsp olive oil
    8 good quality pork sausages
150g rasshers smoked streaky bacon, cut into cubes
2 trimmed leeks, cleaned and cut into 2cm slices
3 eating apples, peeled, cored and diced
    300ml cider or apple juice

Warm oil and add sausages, cook for 5 mins or until browned all over. Remove sausages and place in SC. Add bacon and leeks to oil and stir fry for about 3-5 mins until softened. Spoon into SC. Add the apples and cider (or apple juice if giving to kids) to SC and cook on low for 6-8 hours.
Serve with mash and freshly steamed purple sprouting broccoli (or whatever else you fancy)

    HTH xx

I think so, if you really want a bigger one (and have the room). My 4.8 litre can fit a whole chicken, not as big as the one you want, but with SC the bigger the better (in my opinion!)

Lastnight I had the lasagne base in there ... made up 2 huge lasagnes with that ready for the freezer :)

This morning I have a gammon joint in coca cola a la Nigella ... never done this before so keeping my fingers crossed! Will whip it out later to glaze :)
