In case it helps someone Argos have reduced the price of their Cookworks SC from £10 to £8 at the moment. Its the one I have and I would recommend it.
  • Well after being inspired by you lot, I got a slow cooker - donated by my stepmum who used it once and didn't like it, more fool her! - and used it for the first time last night!

Made braising steak with a beef and ale sauce mix and some gravy granules to thicken it because I put a bit too much water in and it was lovely! Served it with jacket potato and Yorkshire pudding... as you can tell, I'm not a huge fan of veg but I'm hoping that as I get more adventurous with the SC I'll eat more of them - seem more tolerable in a casserole or bolognaise than just on their own... I'll let you know how it goes!

My housemate is planning to make chicken soup in it today with some chicken thighs and veg (carrot, onion, celery) I got reduced in Co-Op - that's another thing MSE has got me onto, Whoopsies as you call them! I never used to really bother looking at the reduced shelves before because I just assumed it'd all be rubbish and a bit manky... after a proper look and a bit of an attitude adjustment, I'm now a Whoopsie convert!

    I love this place! :T

I've got both of my slow cookers going today. This bloomin' weather is more like autumn, so in one I've got a beef casserole for hubby and the boys and in the other I've got a veggie casserole for me.

Made the mistake of asking DF what he wanted me to do with the turkey mince I had and the reply was..."Christmas Pie"!!!!

So in there at the moment is:

    Turkey mince
    Onion
    Carrot
    Sage
    Mulled wine spice
    Stock
    Dried cranberries

Sliced potato to go on top in an hour or so...

    Hope it turns out ok!

    I forgot: frozen mixed peppers....
  • Got my first ever slow cooked concoction on at the moment :) Chicken and mushrooms in white wine - there's a lot of liquid, I'm guessing the trick is to take the lid off for the last half an hour or so to let some evapourate?

Shoulder of lamb, with big chunks of onion, carrot and celery, with lentils, barley and peas.

With baked potatoes and buttery, peppery cabbage.

    Yummy.
