do you just put the mixture straight into the slo cooker or into a different bowl in the slo cooker

I only have a large oval SC, so I put a kettle full of boiling water in it and stood the pudding mix in a pyrex bowl with a sheet of greased foil on the top to stop the crust becoming too soggy. I guess if you have a smaller SC you can cook it straight in the SC.

sell it to him on the money saving angle for the sunday joint.
I buy the cheapest joints, and the use by the end of the day reduced stuff and SC them for hours.
the first time he has a slow cooked brisket that just melts in his mouth he'll be hooked :D

But today I made irish stew

left over lamb I had frozen, two carrots and an onion, a lamb stock cube, sundays left over spuds and pearl barley.

filled pot three quarters with boiling water, cooked on low for four hours, added teaspoon of mint, tabelspoon of redcurrant jelly.
huge dinner for four with enough over for my lunch tomorrow.

    I LOVE my SC :heartsmil:heartsmil

    Your stew sounds gorgeous!

    Hi
I need a bit of advice. A while back I remember seeing a forum that compared different solow cookers and now I can't find it. When I was in my local Sainsbury's yesterday they had 2 slow cookers on sale one was Sainsbury's own brand and the other was a Murphy Richardson one. I know nothing about slow cookers but I've heard alot of good about them so thought I'd get one.

Both slowcookers are 17.XX, the MR one is black while the Sainsbury's is metal.

    My question is.....which one?

My previous SC was Swan (I think?), but it did take a long time to cook the food (8-12 hours), even the high setting took a while. I now have a Morphy Richards which I love, it seems to cook food a lot more efficiently, so I don't need to use the high setting much.

See if you can find any reviews for the two, and check the specifications for each. That should help you decide.

Chicken carcass, veg and bayleaf making stock in mine today ready to be reduced later for a higher concentration. Effortless stock making today while at work!

Will have to copy and paste a few more recipes from here to add to the recipe folder as I always run out of inspiration for the SC and it stays unused on the side, poor little SC not unloved but unused for a while!

    Natasha,
I have had the sainsburys slow cooker for about a year now and think it's pretty good. I think I only paid £10 or £15 for it. I'm not sure there is much of a difference between the basic slow cookers, but if you spend more you can get ones where you can put the pot on the hob and in the oven.

Only thing with the sainsburys one, it doesn't have a 'warm' option, only low, high and auto.

    Hope that helps.

In mine today I have a huge beef curry - 2 packs of beef, 2 peppers, 2 onions, 5 tomatoes, 5 mushrooms, garlic, ginger, balti paste, 2 jars balti sauce.

Got friends coming over tonight who suggested getting a takeaway, so this should save us a few quid.

    Today i have Turkey stew.

Diced Turkey thighs from Mr T
    2 carrots chopped
    2 spuds chopped
    handfull of frozen peas
    handful of frozen sweetcorn
    handfull of pulses
tin of Mr T's cheep chicken and mushroom soup

I cooked the pots and carrots in the micowave for 10 mins this morning then bunged it all in SC at 7am this morning. It should be nicely cooked for when we all get home from school and work tonight. I shall make some dumplings to go with it.

Yum yum, i am looking forward to it already

Russell Hobbs do a 2 Section Slow Cooker. So you can cook two different things at once. It has lots of good recipes in its instruction booklet, worth the download. Couldn't seem to post any more detail because of spam rules.

Its the Dual Pot Slow Cooker.
