I made hm baked beans (mse recipe) in mine today and then mixed some with mozarella and pasta for our evening meal. The beans are so delicious with minimal salt and sugar. I'm so pleased with them!DFW Nerd 941 Proud to be dealing with my debt

I have steak and kidney, leek, carrot, mushrooms and potatoe in mine today. With beef stock, chilli and Jack Daniels BBQ sauce.
Generally things dont overcook in the slow cooker, but sauces can tend to be a bit thin. I add some corn flour or gravy granuals close to end of cooking.0 -
wee came back from camping sodden wet and whilst hubby sorted the tent, i popped frozen veg, veggie meatballs and an onion in slow cooker.
then when they were cooked I popped in abit of pasta with extra water whilst i sorted teh washing etc out, then we all finally finished getting the house sorted we all had a tasty tea! sc rules around here at the minute x:A :j0 -
Today I made:
Swordfish in Barbecue Sauce
1 tbsp sunflower oil
1 small onion, finely chopped
1 garlic clove, crushed
1/2 tsp chilli powder
1 tbsp Worcs sauce
1 tbsp soft light brown sugar
1 tbsp balsamic vinegar
1 tbsp mustard
1 can of chopped tomatos
4 swordfish steaks (or tuna or other meaty fish)
Heat the oil in the frying pan, add the onion and fry gently until soft. Stir in the garlic and chilli powder and cook for a few seconds. Then add Worcs sauce, sugar, vinegar, mustard and chopped toms. Heat gently till nearly boiling.
Pour half the sauce in the bottom of your slow cooker then rinse each swordfish steak and pat dry with kitchen roll and lay on top of the sauce. Top with the remaining sauce.
Cook on high for 2-3 hours.
Served with plain boiled rice.
Made a nice change from all the stews I tend to do.DFW Nerd 941 Proud to be dealing with my debt

whoop whoop:j got my slow cooker from argos today but I havent got the first clue on how to use it
lol
Ive got some sausages in the fridge that need using, was thinking sausages and onions in gravy but I havent got a clue what to do, any advice.
Also Ive ordered a small gammon joint (750g) with my weeky shop - due to be delivered in the morn. Do I need to soak it and how shall I cook it?
Im sure someone will come to my rescue:o
thank you soooo much0 -
Just been out and bought the MR slow cooker from Sainsbury's. Chose that one because it's small (I only batch cook for myself &occasional guests) and figured that the higher starting price indicated better quality-not always true I know but I like the feeling of getting the biggest reduction!
Just stuck a bolognaise in there, didn't quite follow the recipe as it called for 700g mince which was more than I had. Fingers crossed it's edible!
Did you buy it from the Ballymena store? I went there yesterday to get the MR one but it was gone so just got the Sainsbury's one instead.Norn Iron Club Member No 1270 -

Add onions, (browned) sausages, and then whatever you want for the gravy. You can use anything such as: stock, packet mix, water, juice, cider, chopped tomatoes, herbs, and whatever seasoning takes your fancy.
With gammon, I would soak it if its salted.0 -
thank you so much:j sausages in the sc for tea tonight.
when I put the gammon in tomorrow, do I have to cover it with boiling water? I will add an onion, bay leaf and carrot aswell, how long will it take to cook?
Im sorry about all the questions:o0 -
I think sausages go a bit strange in the slow cooker. Not unpleasant, but the texture is a little like those sausages that you get in tins with beans.0
