Rice pudding in mine today :) actually it was on overnight (cheap electricity) and i had some after lunch, twas delish! However, as my slow cooker is an incredibly old Tower Slo Cooker (and, I suspect, a bit broken) it took 13 hours again. I'm guessing that's not normal?

I'm so glad I found this thread! Given me some great ideas and a few chuckles about disasters too.

My disaster was Fish Pie - can't remember the recipe but it included tinned prawns and frozen cod. It was rank and went straight down the toilet pan with much retching by my family. I stuck the slo cooker in the cupboard and left it for months after that.

However, I have now dusted it of and it's used regulary. Today I have some chicken chests, sliced frozen onion and a tin of ww chicken soup thrown in for good measure. I'll serve it with boiled tatties and sliced green beans. Smells lovely so here's hoping.

Anyone on here who has a large family and uses a larger slo cooker? In this household there are 3 adults, 8yr ds, 2.5yr ds and 1 (tomorrow actually!) yr ds. I need a bigger slo cooker and one which does chicken and large joints in it. What make/model do you use?

    A

I have two adults, one teenager, one soon to be teenager and two littlies. I have the Morphy Richards 6.5l one, it was on offer in Asda a few months ago, I regularly use mine to double cook and theres stillplenty of space. Planning a surprise birthday bash in a few months time for my mum who will be sixty, gonna invite about 50 people and hoping to use three/four slow cookers to cook the lot! Obviously will cook accompaniments in steamer etc.

I can get good size chicken and joints in mine too. Am considering buying a slightly smaller one as well for days when I am cooking smaller amounts or days like today where I am already using the large cooker and fancy using up some milk in a rice pudding.
  • Hi everyone

Always pop in here for inspiration for SC meals!!!

I have a jar of rogan josh curry sauce and some chicken breasts in freezer, will I be okay defrosting these overnight and making the curry in the SC? Should I add anything else?

    thanks

Mince and onions with chopped celery, carrot, Marmite dissolved in hot water and a sprinkling of plain flour. Can't wait for lunch now, even tho the sun is beaming down on us this morning :D Should be ready about one-ish to enjoy with some veggies and boiled potatoes. Was gonna do a fruit crumble with cream for pud, but as it is so warm today I think I will do a treacle tart instead (proper black treacle too) mmmm....
Oooh! can you give your treacle tart recipe please?! ta :D

Like Kidcat, I have the MR 6.5 litre. I also have the 3.5 litre version. I use both regularly (not usually at the same time; I use whichever one is appropriate for whatever I'm cooking). We're a family of eight - two adults, one [STRIKE]garbage-disposal-unit[/STRIKE] teenaged boy, one [STRIKE]mini-garbage-disposal-unit[/STRIKE] approaching-teenaged boy.

I'm quite happy with the Morphy Richards.

Its a cheats recipe as all the slow cooker is doing is heating it through and letting the flavours mingle.

2 tins of mixed beans with chilli sauce (I use Tesco Taco beans)
    1 tin chopped tomatoes
    1 tin sweetcorn
    1 tin condensed chicken soup
Any chopped up left over chicken
I also add any veg in fridge that may need using up eg: peppers or courgettes.
If you like it to have an kick add some chilli powder or I add a splash of Regae Regae sauce and then leave jar on table so the ones who like an extra kick can help themselves.
Stir and leave to cook - at this stage it will look horrible as the ingrediants have yet to mingle.
About 30 minutes before serving I add a packet of microwave basmati rice.
    Enjoy.

    Veggie version.
I have also done this recipe without the chicken and chicken soup, but added mushroom soup and fresh mushrooms. My veggie sister uses this as a staple meal when cooking for her uni mates.

Hi all turkey curry in mine -

few chopped carrots (past their best from the bottom of the fridge)
Two chopped onions fried off and turkey meat fried off, curry paste added, plus tin of tomatoes and a bit of water....

and a load of presoaked broth mix (split peas, lentils and barley) - just to bulk it out and fill us up.
working on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?

    Morning!
I've got a joint of lamb in mine but I'm worried I'm being optimistic. I just put it in resting on some veg (seen the tip on here) with about an inch of hot stock on the bottom and set it on high.
Could anyone more experienced with SC tell me if this is likely to cook or should I have sealed the lamb first or put more stock in or something?

    Thanks
