I usually add them to the Slow Cooker while its on high (you need the liquid/stock to be bubbling as much as possible really) about an hour before serving - though that depends on the size of the dumplings.

I use the recipe on the side of the pack of suet and make them about 'golf ball' size - always find that they need a bit more water than the recipe states though  - but maybe my tablespoon measure is different from theirs.

Sorry can't be more specific - but good luck.

I'm wanting to add some red lentils to a chilli i'm making later this week to try and make it go a bit further. How many do i add? I was thinking a small handfull as i dont want OH to notice;).
I'm wanting to get a cook book for my sc. I've looked at the one mentioned (on this thread i think), but doubt i'll use it very much as OH and ds are very fussy:rolleyes:. Are there any basic cookbooks (cheap too) out there. By basic i mean recipies for a basic stew/casserole that you can add your own things too? Or am i best off just looking online?
    Thanks

i add a handful or two - my advice is start small and build up! you really don't notice them, but i am also making sure that DH doesn't notice them (or see me doing it!). i started off with just a few little spoonfuls and am working my way up. don't forget porridge oats also good for bulking out & thickening!

i was given a few slow cooker books from my MIL when she gave me my slow cooker. tbh, they're not that much use! i say try online and there's a lovely slow cooker recipe thread on MSE...

    Hi!

Want to try this - do i need to soak the lentils first if they are dried ones??

    Any help greatly appreciated

    :o

I don't bother - I just give them a rinse and stick them in at the beginning of cooking. I've not had a dodgy belly yet!

Well i brought a slow cooker on friday and at the mo im cooking my first meal a beef cassarole, pmsl though i was preparing beef stew till i looked at the recipe again, oh well, still having dumplins, i purchased a packet 'A mix for farmhouse style dumplins' 45p was cheaper than buying the suet. Will let you know how it goes!

Cream would help, but not till right at the end I think - as I think the cream may split? how about a squirt of lemon juice.
