I'd love to pop something in before going to work but would love suggestions as to which recipes can be done all day on a low heat
I've left my chicken casserole on low all day whilst I'm at workI would do the spag bol but wouldnt have time to brown the mince before the work/school run
I just preped the veg & potatoes the night before for the chicken casserole and left in water in fridge overnight then popped in SC thsi morning with the chicken breast and gravy.

I put my bolognaise on at 7:30 am on mon and we ate at 5:30pm and it was fine. Another one I leave all day is casserole, either chicken, beef or pork with onion, carrot, potato, swede and garden peas with crushed garlic, a squeeze of tomato puree and gravy.Debt busting! Jan 2014 £7632.50 £7445.80

Sausage casserole for me too - threw it together in a frying pan when I got home from work and then stuck it in the SC on high. Hope it cooks in time for tea! Making mashed potato to go with it.Wendy x0

I have recently bought a slow cooker (after you lot nagged me into getting one. lol) I have just done my first sausage cassarole in it,
5 richmond sausages, grilled for a bit for colour.
2 carrots thinly sliced,
1 onion roughly sliced/ chopped,
1 tatie peeled & chopped into small cubes,
& some stuff my mam got for me,(green 'dots', red 'dots', peas, small sugar puff things.) I soaked these over night.
I boiled the veg for a little while to soften it, (i didn't want to risk having solid chunks of potato at the end of cooking in s/c.)
I just poured the veg & cooking water into s/c
chucked in the chopped up browned sausage
& tipped in the soaked stuff.
It tasted suprisingly good for my first attempt, I will make it again in a day or two, but next time i will make a pot full & feed the freezer with it.
Hopefully... if i don't give myself food poisoning, In the future i'll try using real meat!
(Real,... as in identifiable bits of animal, as opposed to bacon or sausage.)
Thank you everyone for introduceing me to the world of slow cooking. ;-)It's better to be late in this world than early in the next! :A0 -
Spicy Mexican Chicken today.
couple of cloves of garlic, crushed and browned with 2 chopped chicken breasts. Put them in the slow cooker and add:
chilli powder (1/2 tsp or to taste)
tin of tomatoes (chopped or just mashed up)
6 - 8oz frozen green beans (any sort).
tin of kidney beans or mixed beans (I used mixed as I prefer them).
2 chopped chillis or dried chilli flakes, again this is a matter of taste, how hot you like it.
2 level teaspoons of unsweetened cocoa powder (disolved in two tbsp of hot water)
1/2 tsp cinnamon
2 tbs Chopped fresh or 1/2 tsp dried coriander
1 tbs tomato puree.
Leave to cook on low, all day if you like, or half a day on medium. Half an hour before serving stir in 1tbs lime juice, and I also fried off some choritzo and stirred it through.:)
You could make this vegatarian simply by replacing the chicken with courgettes and/or pre cooked carrot.0 -
Ooh re dumplings - how long do they need in an SC...
DS (voracious 15 YO) is a mega dumpling fan and needs filling up - dumplings do the business but I have never SC'd them
(and is as thin as a really thin thing LOL)
ACTUALLY (takes deep breath) have never SC'd anything yet but I plan to do batch 1 29.01.09

Beef Stew - with a judicious splash of red wine.
Our oven "blew up" yesterday - probably beyond repair, so it looks as thought the slow cooker will be getting a bit of use in the next few days!
