You won't win this one, General.. You're trying to argue a factual case against a bunch of high octane ideologues who believe what they feel in preference to what is real and verifiable.
Mere facts don't stand a chance.
I'm off to bed: 1 more sleep 'til Christmas. Perhaps over the next few hours as I snore gently to myself one of these apologists for the indolent will say why £26,000 isn't enough to live on and what should be done about it including who should pay of course.0 -

We know that lefties love to pontificate and peddle their ridiculous propaganda on the internet. It surprises me though that so many have descended on this website, since one would hardly expect it to be a fertile ground for left wing indoctrination. In typical obsessive fashion, I imagine that they continually Google for key political-sounding terms and then investigate what they find. Here they found a number of people talking about savings, investments, jobs, business, etc all of which are anathema to the hard left, so thought they'd come in with a bit of a wrecking ball and see how many people they could p**s off.No-one would remember the Good Samaritan if he'd only had good intentions. He had money as well.
The problem with socialism is that eventually you run out of other people's money.

For anyone wanting to know JSA levels: Under 25 yr olds £56.25/ week
Over that £71/week and that is all the majority of JSeekers in this country actually get. The only people who get more are people with families who are in rented housing have no savings and receive Income related JSA and it is pretty hard to get that. If one partner is still in work you cannot get it at all. Been there and done that in 2005 and 1996. Oh and if you have a mortgage and negative equity that is now reality for a lot of people, you will more than likely lose your home. Sometimes the lender will be understanding and help. But you need to jump through hoops to get that help.
If you truly want to know what is wrong with the country - it is all the social housing that got sold off during the Thatcher years and due to legislation was not replaced at all. The gov't stole that money from local authorities in effect and we now have the situation that many properties that were once SH are now in private hands and rented out at way above realistic rentals for their areas. That is where a lot of the problems stem from. Called GREED. One of the 7 deadly sins. I live in East anglian region and for years private rentals in my area were artificially high due to PLL's renting to American service personel - who got all their rent paid in full at 3 times the rate of mortgage at the time and none would rent to people like me on a limited income. Now due to paranoia etc, those same renters are in amercian housing mostly on the base where they can be protected better and the PLL's have now had to sell up or lower their rents in order to get some income coming in.
Funny thing is I am now ill with an incurable disease which our wonderful right or left ish gov't is not investing in looking for any cure for whatsoever. So now I get the help I need to survive and it is exactly that - survive. We do not get lots of money - but enough to with careful management live on and pay our way. However with UC and PIP arriving in the near future even that will be taken away from many people. Me included I should think, but until it starts to be paid out and full operative rules are apparent, no one can know what will happen. I can barely walk or function at the moment and this has all happened in the space of last 18 months. I have always been in work, whenever I could, paid tax and NI as has my OH and we had to live on less than the benefit capped rate stated in the Daily wail. Sometimes I was the only one working as we took the decision to have my OH at home to look after our daughter. Who is now in 6th form college doing an IB course with 6 subjects. We hope that she will get to go to uni, but she knows full well that she will have to get a job to support her through it all. That is her reality. For now any CTC we get for her helps pay for her food and clothing needs and she rarely buys anything new. Car boots and charity shops. We do not have any TV packages or latest mobiles phones and the ones we do have are used for emergency contact. - a voucher for us lasts nearly a year - but I will need to get her a top up for next term over the holidays.0 -

Perhaps is fewer people took the p... then the money would be there for you to get the help you need.0 -
So what would be the solution?. I loved to know what could be done with all these human beings, who need to eat, have shelter and look after their children, if we all kept our tax to ourselves. It is all very well saying don't pay my money to them but what is the solution - let them starve and put the children into care?.
I genuinely would be interest as a human being to hear the words of advice off this thread on what to do in a constructive way to help motivate/help themselves. All I've heard so far is how it effects each individual on here not what can be done to make a difference.
We could all hate those below us for daring to need help or even those above us for example, avoiding tax. Were a family of higher tax payers by the way.
So, what's a constructive solution, invest in jobs?, training schemes?, who covers the difference between minimum wage and the cost of living?. It really is no good moaning about it, a society which is supposed on the one hand to be rich, can't feed the needy.
Sends a very strong message to the rest of the world. How on earth are we supposed to show our country as open for business, when we can't employ, house or feed people properly?.Mortgage: Aug 12 £114,984.74 - Jun 14 £94000.00 = Total Payments £20984.74

The solution lies in reducing benefits to the bare minimum so there is no incentive to be on them. The deserving cases would remain to be helped. Those who found that they could no longer get their free booze, fags, scratchcards, Sky TV etc would either turn/revert to crime, and hopefully be thus dealt with, or would start trying to find ways to help themselves. I would have no problem with public money being spent on helping those who want to help themselves :- training, job creation/stimulus etc.No-one would remember the Good Samaritan if he'd only had good intentions. He had money as well.

What!, I have read a lot of the threads on here and it just seems to be a breeding ground of contempt and human disregard.Mortgage: Aug 12 £114,984.74 - Jun 14 £94000.00 = Total Payments £20984.74

Benefits have already been cut as far as they can, most who receive benefits are working but in very low paid jobs. Again, how can you cut back more and give children and families support?.
I dealt with benefits, quite often and I can truthfully say, no one receives nearly as much as stated for 4 person family.Mortgage: Aug 12 £114,984.74 - Jun 14 £94000.00 = Total Payments £20984.74

And who would that remark be aimed at ? The left wing wind-up merchants, those who oppose them, or both ?No-one would remember the Good Samaritan if he'd only had good intentions. He had money as well.
