So you are saying the story is untrue?

The need for a foodbank in a place like Witney suggests to me that things are getting quite bad.

Well if Cameron does not care about poverty in his own constituency there is not much chance he will deal with it in the rest of the country. I imagine this Xmas he will be surrounded by people toasting the Queen with 30 year old port suggesting that the plebs should eat cake.

Thanks, and how strange you should say that! - Cameron's landlord of his local is in trouble too - says he will have tp pack in the pub unless things improve....

so what the H is Cam and mates thinking of? Exorbitant tolls as well as petrol to put people off going out, growing the economy, having a pint or a bite to eat - this economy (even in high brow oxon, is dying on its feet!)

I'm not sure why these food banks are required.

I worked out how my circumstances would have changed if I was made unemployed earning £30,000, my gross annual salary at the hedge fund. I'd have lost about £4,000 of my net income, falling from £23,000/year to £19,000/year. I'd have had to trim my costs but not by much. Once you take off the annual season ticket (£2,400 a year IIRC) I'd only be about £1,600 a year worse off = £31/week. I probably used to spend more than that in the pub!

So why are people starving and needing to turn to charity for food? I don't get it. The only possible explanation I can think of is that they borrowed to consume during the boom times and so are trying to pay back debt as well as paying their way, I can see that would be impossible to do. More than a grand or so of credit card debt and no offsetting savings would be a big problem.

Food banks are the latest wheeze dreamed-up by shroud waving Leftist spinners.

Grown-ups will recall the endless 'plight of the homeless' stories which plagued the later Thatcher and then Major years, only to magically disappear once we entered the sunlit uplands of NuLabour and 'epidemic of homelessness' vanished as if by magic.

DLW is just a Labour troll.

    Eh?

How do you figure that then?

If we lost our jobs then we'd have our savings, and I suppose in theory one could claim JSA, but it's a paltry amount I believe?

Or is this some tax credit/benefit/having kids sort of thing?
