And I don't believe that Generali's post specified single so it's not necessarily an apples to apples comparison.No-one would remember the Good Samaritan if he'd only had good intentions. He had money as well.
The problem with socialism is that eventually you run out of other people's money.

You the donor, you are being modest I know, put the smiles on the faces of these people who will be very grateful to you and all involved. Not just at Christmas time.0 -

More people will only be receiving basic dole money than a full entitlement to benefits.
Do you do any charitable work? Give up just a few hours of time in a year to help those less fortunate? I suspect not. Fortunately an increasing number of organisations do so. Creating better communities for all.0 -

In terms of my local one, which is a Trussell Trust initiative, the people receiving the food help do so on a short term basis and by referral (eg from a GP, social worker. job centre person who knows that person is struggling). You can't just turn up every week for your bag of freebies. So a typical user could be something like a family where one person has lost their job but then they get a big bill because say, their heating system has broken down.
My local one also collects food to feed the homeless, many of whom I know from the experience of working with them have very little.
Thanks that is a very interesting insight into foodbanks. I hope some of th unsympathetic posters on this site hang their heads in shame at some of the things they have posted. Of course they will not see their selfish and uncharitable and un-Christian attitudes as in anyway shameful.Few people are capable of expressing with equanimity opinions which differ from the prejudices of their social environment. Most people are incapable of forming such opinions.0 -

No they're not. It's what I would have got if I'd signed on from the financial position I was in when I left the UK. I just plugged in my numbers into the UK Government's benefits calculator. This isn't some Daily Mail fantasy, it's my financial position run through a UK Government web-based calculator.
Pontification from abroad adds to the incredibility of your explanations in this matter. I am glad you still read the Daily Mail, how else could you stay in touch with the realities of life in the UK.Few people are capable of expressing with equanimity opinions which differ from the prejudices of their social environment. Alternatively he could read the Grauniad and follow life's progress on the Planet Zog.
Why do lefties persist in trying to use the term Daily Mail as an insult ? For those who do read it it's a badge of honour, and for those who don't it just comes over as a puerile and rather desperate attempt to score a point in a lost argument.No-one would remember the Good Samaritan if he'd only had good intentions.
