    Eh?

How do you figure that then?

If we lost our jobs then we'd have our savings, and I suppose in theory one could claim JSA, but it's a paltry amount I believe?

Or is this some tax credit/benefit/having kids sort of thing?

Actually, I'm wrong. Sorry about that. Losing my job would have given me a pay rise of just over a grand a year. This is how it is calculated by the benefits adviser website:
Child Tax Credit £113.68 per week
    Housing Benefit £200.00 per week
Council Tax Benefit £19.24 per week
Jobseeker's Allowance (Contribution based) £71.00 per week
Jobseeker's Allowance (Contribution based) £71.00 per week
Total benefits you have declared (child benefit)£33.70 per week
Total weekly income £508.62 per week

Obviously I've made a bunch of assumptions but I'm not claiming for sickness or disability for anyone which I probably could. I don't know why I ever bothered working!

Your bulsh@:t is becoming ever more bizzare, if your tory sh@t is so perfect why did you feel the great need to run away so quickly,

Thanks for the gratuitous abuse, it's traditional at this time of year.

Which bit is actually wrong in what I posted? Per the above I could claim over £26,000 in benefits for my family and I living in the same circumstances as I was in the UK.

It was in no way a personal attack or gratuitous abuse.

But your continual ill informed attacks on the hard working left wing voters in this country shows an absolute misunderstanding of the tragic divide between the haves and have nots in this country which if not carefull will explode into class war.

I prefer as a lefty to think that our differences are matters of empathy rather than i m alright jack.

In any event best wishes for this season of goodwill to all the Generalis.

Thank you for the kind wishes, Happy Christmas to you and any other headcones there may be. Perhaps on re-reading you can see why the phrase, "your bullsh@t is becoming more bizarre" could be considered to be a little abusive.

It is my honest belief that the current welfare system, while well meant, creates poverty rather than alleviating it. Certainly a situation where I can be better off by quitting a pretty well paid job is crazy!

I think that the time has for many of you to calm down, ok its Christmas banter, but the time is now to make all your New Year Resolutions. I wonder what theme they would follow?

I can see the utter shock on many of your faces when at the next General Election the 'Dark Horse' outsider wins the Election.
  • Thanks Generalii, you make a good point! The reasons are manifold but one is that many families and disabled are just having their support slashed instantly for excuses like putting wrong things in wromg box on form, dates not tallying exactly, not applying for jobs 200 miles away etc - and this leaves them truly destitute. 2. In times of yore, people would simply sell something - but that options kaput - as we all know no-ones buying (mortgages and loans are impossible to get even for those with deposits - so people are trapped, many not entitled to help etc. One mother in cumbria dragged two children 18 miles in the storms then carried heavy grocery bags back again! I think it's a a callous disregard for others and b the Cons incompetence - they don't have the governing experience to think things through.

Was that the mother dragging the food back from the FOODBANK, not the shops, because public transport couldn't be afforded ?

  • Yes, that's the one. I think she only had a couple of pounds left for the meter - it was in the last storms we had. The food bank ladies were truly shocked. It was a newspaper article - I ll see if I can refind it.

AFAICS, the benefits system is incredibly generous. If people are unable to make that money last for a week or a fortnight then I suspect the issue is with the individuals concerned and increasing the amount of money given to them is unlikely to help.

If I could have got £26,000 net for a family of 4, what exactly is a reasonable amount of money to give people?
