SKY TV Problem

Options
I switched on the TV this morning and some channels weren't working.

I tried again about 2 hours ago and now all channels are missing and I am getting this error message.

No satellite signal is being received 29

Payment was due to be taken today, and I have plenty of money in the bank. I've checked and nothing has been taken yet, so I am wondering if somehow they didn't get the payment and they have cut me off, but then I thought all the free ones would still be there, like BBC 1 etc?

Anyway, checked signal - strength is fine, but no quality at all.

Add to that, we have scaffolding outside, could this be an issue? No idea if they have played around with anything, but I don't think they have moved the scaffolding that has been up for 2 weeks, but they have been working right outside and the dish is right next to where they work.

Any ideas?
Thanks

Your dish or LNB has probably been knocked by someone on the scaffold. Doesn't need too much to lose the picture although showing a signal. They may also have disconnected or loosened a wire, possibly at the LNB.

Often with a loose or poor connection you will pick up some channels but not all. That is probable you problem bearing in mind you lost some channels earlier. You need to check all the cabling and its connections, including those in to the back of your Sky box. You may have to get out on the scaffold. Be careful and do not take any risks.

BTW, is it just a standard digi box or is it Sky+? If Sky+, have you lost output on both inputs?

What's an LNB and can I sort it myself?

Getting nothing at all now, just the no satellite received error.

Checked the sky box - it's not that.

It's just a standard Sky box (Panasonic).

I hope I can sort it before 6pm as flatmate wants to watch something at that time and if it's not sorted..........i'm in trouble as she's fierce

The LNB is the receiver on the end of the arm on the dish.

The 'quality' meter is the important one to check (as you have found out).

I'm gonna have to check when the builders have made room.

    Quality = nothing

I was thinking it may be some problem with them getting payment as it's due out today and checked online banking and hasn't been taken despite plenty in there.

May call them anyway to rule that out.

What happens if it is a builders fault and I can't fix it? Who do I bill for damaging my dish :o

We sometimes get this message after bad weather and have to reboot completely which means unplugging the Sky box at the socket (not just turning it off) and waiting two minutes before starting it up again. It normally works for us

    Trying it now.

Phoned Sky, tried a few things, no luck.

May have to get an engineer out - and i'm not covered. I will lose my cool with these damn builders.

I get this sometimes. I usually unplug the power plug, remove the sky card and leave it out for a few mins. Once put back in, it should try and scan for channels and come on to the Sky test channel.

As mentioned above it's probably the dish out of alignment or something is obstructing its path. If the cause is the builders then they are responsible for putting things right, they must be insured for such eventualties.
